Abstract The purpose of this study is to discuss the morphosyntax ordinal numerals in Jordanian Arabic (JA). I show that JA do not belong a uniform category and argue they different syntactic morphological behaviours depending on their structural position inside extended nominal projection. In particular, pre-nominal ordinals are QPs can merge or outside DP, similar quantifier kull (Shlonsky, 1...

Syntax-based Machine Translation systems have recently become a focus of research with much hope that they will outperform traditional Phrase-Based Statistical Machine Translation (PBSMT). Toward this goal, we present a method for analyzing the morphosyntactic content of language from an Elicitation Corpus such as the one included in the LDC’s upcoming LCTL language packs. The presented method ...

This paper discusses aspects of a functional grammar for Machine Translation (MT). We present a restricted approach to some central issues of "diathesis/ alternations" of predicate-argument structures on a level of "Interface Structure" (IS) for multi-lingual machine translation. The approach generalizes a set of morphosyntactic phenomena into a set of "diathesis" features with specified intera...

This paper presents Walenty, a comprehensive valence dictionary of Polish, with a number of novel features, as compared to other such dictionaries. The notion of argument is based on the coordination test and takes into consideration the possibility of diverse morphosyntactic realisations. Some aspects of the internal structure of phraseological (idiomatic) arguments are handled explicitly. Whi...

In this paper we discuss a rule-based approach to chunking sentences in Croatian, implemented using local regular grammars within the NooJ development environment. We describe the rules and their implementation by regular grammars and at the same time show that in NooJ environment it is extremely easy to fine tune their different sub-rules. Since Croatian has strong morphosyntactic features tha...

In this paper, we first had a overall study of existing POS tag sets for European and Indian languages. Till now, most of the research done on POS tagging is for English. We observed that even though the research on POS tagging for English is done exhaustively, part-of-speech annotation in various research applications is incomparable which is variously due to the variations in tag set definiti...

In this paper, we describe research that aims to make evidence on the morphosyntactic preferences of collocations available to lexicographers. Our methods for the extraction of appropriate frequency data and its statistical analysis are applied to the number and case preferences of German adjective+noun combinations in a small case study.
