The relation between the γ-ray and the emission line luminosities for a sample of 36 γ-ray loud blazars is investigated; an apparent correlation between them, Lγ ∝ L 0.69±0.11 Line , with a correlation coefficient r = 0.741 and a chance probability of p = 1.9× 10, is found. It is found, however, that there is no intrinsic correlation between them: the apparent correlation is due to the redshift...

The multiple correlation coefficient is used in a large variety of statistical tests and regression problems. In this article, we derive the null distribution of the square of the sample multiple correlation coefficient, R2, when a sample is drawn from a mixture of two multivariate Gaussian populations. The moments of 1−R2 and inverse Mellin transform have been used to derive the density of R2.

In a homogeneous jury, in which each vote is correct with the same probability, and each pair of votes correlates with the same correlation coefficient, there exists a correlation-robust voting quota, such that the probability of a correct verdict is independent of the correlation coefficient. For positive correlation, an increase in the correlation coefficient decreases the probability of a co...

PURPOSE The aim of this study is to determine the reliability of corneal thickness measurements derived from SOCT Copernicus HR (Fourier domain OCT). METHODS Thirty healthy eyes of 30 subjects were evaluated. One eye of each patient was chosen randomly. Images were obtained of the central (up to 2.0 mm from the corneal apex) and paracentral (2.0 to 4.0 mm) cornea. We assessed corneal thicknes...

In order to meet the higher accuracy and system reliability requirements, the information fusion for multi-sensor systems is an increasing concern. Dempster-Shafer evidence theory (D-S theory) has been investigated for many applications in multi-sensor information fusion due to its flexibility in uncertainty modeling. However, classical evidence theory assumes that the evidence is independent o...

An equation proposed recently (Haase and Jansen, 1980) relates to the dependence on composition and temperature of the diffusion coefficient D and of the kinematic diffusion coefficient D* in a binary nonelectrolyte solution. This equation is now applied to our own measurements of the activity coefficients and of the diffusion coefficient in the non-ideal liquid system carbon tetrachloride + ac...

Steady state pool boiling heat transfer coefficients have been obtained experimentally for acetone–isopropanol–water and acetone–MEK (methyl ethyl ketone)–water ternary systems. The data show that, for a given heat flux, the heat transfer coefficients of mixtures are lower than those obtained for pure components constituting the mixture. The measured heat transfer coefficients were compared wit...

This paper proposes two sampling strategies based on the modified ratio estimator using the population mean of auxiliary variable and population correlation coefficient between the study variable and the auxiliary variable by Singh and Tailor (2003) for estimating the population mean (total) of the study variable in a finite population. A comparative study is made with usual sampling strategies...

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to retrospectively assess the correlation between minimum apparent diffusion coefficient (ADCmin) values obtained from diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and maximum standardized uptake values (SUVmax) obtained from positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) in rectal cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty-one patients with pathol...

In clinical practice, patients' balance can be assessed using standard scales. Two of the most validated clinical tests for measuring balance are the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test and the MultiDirectional Reach Test (MDRT). Nowadays, inertial sensors (IS) are employed for kinematic analysis of functional tests in the clinical setting, and have become an alternative to expensive, 3D optical motion ...
