Introduction: Methemoglobin, an abnormal form of hemoglobin, is one the causes that should be considered primarily in severe central cyanosis. Methylene blue and ascorbic acid are used as first-line therapies methemoglobinemia. Experience with use oxygen therapy not sufficient to conclude duration therapy. The aim present study find out effects on drug or toxic agent-induced Material Method: Fi...

TOPIC: Critical Care TYPE: Medical Student/Resident Case Reports INTRODUCTION: Methemoglobinemia is a condition in which hemoglobin oxidized from the ferrous to ferric state. This alters conformation of interfering with its oxygen carrying capacity. case represents patient idiopathic methemoglobinemia. CASE PRESENTATION: A 59-year-old male no medical history was brought hospital after motor veh...

When properly given, local anesthetics are generally free of side effects. However, systemic or localized toxicity occurs with accidental intravascular injection or by injecting excessive doses (especially intrathecally). Additionally, other adverse effects occur with certain agents, e.g., allergic reactions to the amino-esters, and methemoglobinemia with benzocaine and with high doses of prilo...

BACKGROUND Exposure of red blood cells to oxidants increases production of methemoglobin (MHb) resulting in impaired oxygen delivery to tissues. There are no reliable estimates of methemoglobinemia in low resource clinical settings. Our objectives were to: i) evaluate risk factors for methemoglobinemia in Ugandan children hospitalized with fever (study 1); and ii) investigate MHb responses in c...

Acute formation of methemoglobin is a life-threatening condition caused by multiple medications. In this article we report the first case of methemoglobinemia in a patient with metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma, after infusion of ifosfamide chemotherapy. The patient recovered after prompt diagnosis and treatment of the condition. A mechanism for the formation of methemoglobin as a result of the...

Methaemogloninemia is a rare condition characterized by elevated levels of methemoglobin levels. We report a case of a young lady who took thinner (a solvent used in paint). Methemoglobinemia was diagnosed on the basis of saturation gap and elevated methemoglobin levels. She recovered after exchange transfusion, which was done due to non-availability of parenteral methylene blue.

The protein α -synuclein is considered central to the pathogenesis of Parkinson disease (PD) on genetic and histopathological grounds. It is widely expressed in fetal life and continues to be highly expressed in adult neural tissues, red blood cells and platelets, while the remainder of adult tissues are reported to have little or no expression. Despite cellular and molecular evidence for a rol...
