This paper reviews recent progress toward the monolithic, modular integration of microelectromechanical devices (MEMS) with electronics. The interconnect metallurgy poses a thermal budget limit on the processes that can be used to build the MEMS structures after the electronics are completed. In addition, the metal interconnect and inter-metal dielectric layers must be protected during the remo...

We report on the synthesis and electrical properties of nine new alkylated silane self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) - (EtO)3Si(CH2)nN = CHPhX where n = 3 or 11 and X = 4-CF3, 3,5-CF3, 3-F-4-CF3, 4-F, or 2,3,4,5,6-F, and explore their rectification behavior in relation to their molecular structure. The electrical properties of the films were examined in a metal/insulator/metal configuration, with...

In this study, removal of chromium(VI) from aqueous solutions by Palmyra palm fruit seed carbon (PPFSC) and commercial activated carbon (CAC) was investigated. The metal adsorption capacity has been studied as a function of contact time, pH and carbon dosage. The adsorption yields increased with the increasing of adsorbent dosage and contact time, and subsequently reached the equilibrium. The s...

In this paper, we present our research into the interruption performance of vacuum circuit breakers in aviation intermediate-frequency (360 Hz to 800 Hz) power supply systems. Intermediate-frequency vacuum arc experiments were carried out in interrupters with a diameter of 41 mm and CuCr50 alloy contact material. The results show that, as the frequency and peak value of the current increase, bo...

Quartz resonators in contact with metal-covered spheres have been used to study the tribology of micron-sized metal-metal contacts at high speed (1 m/sec and high frequency (12 MHz), while maintaining a shear amplitude in the nanometer range. The data aquisition is based on ring-down experiments, where the electrical excitation is periodically interrupted and the free decay of the oscillation i...

Highly crystalline metal (Co, Ni) selenium (Co0.85Se or Ni0.85Se) nanosheets were in situ grown on metal (Co, Ni) fibers (M-M0.85Se). Both M-M0.85Se (Co-Co0.85Se and Ni-Ni0.85Se) fibers prove to function as excellent, low-cost counter electrodes (CEs) in fiber-shaped dye-sensitized solar cells (FDSSCs) with high power conversion efficiency (Co-Co0.85Se 6.55% and Ni-Ni0.85Se 7.07%), comparable o...

We show that nanoscale doping profiles inside a nanocolumn in combination with Fermi-level pinning at the surface give rise to the formation of a saddlepoint in the potential profile. Consequently, the lateral confinement inside the channel varies along the transport direction, yielding an embedded quantum point contact. An analytical estimation of the quantization energies will be given.

Contact resistances often contribute significantly to the overall device resistance in organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). Understanding charge injection at the metal-organic interface is critical to optimizing OFET device performance. We have performed a series of experiments using bottom-contact poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) OFETs in the shallow channel limit to examine the injection pr...

Contact thermal lithography is a method for fabricating patterns based on thermal effects. In contrast to photolithography, where resolution is limited by the wavelength of light used in the exposure process, thermal lithography is limited by thermal diffusion. A traditional metal-glass photomask is brought into contact with a wafer coated with a thermally sensitive polymer. The mask-wafer comb...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the surface roughness of denture base resin and metal on wettability with water and saliva. Solid specimens were produced using heat-curing denture base resin and Co-Cr alloy. After polymerizing or casting these materials, specimens with four different types of surface roughness were produced by a progressive polishing process using ...
