Iron-functionalized disordered mesoporous silica (FeKIL-2) is a promising, environmentally friendly, cost-effective and highly efficient catalyst for the elimination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from polluted air via catalytic oxidation. In this study, we investigated the type of catalytically active iron sites for different iron concentrations in FeKIL-2 catalysts using advanced charac...

In this paper, we study synthesis and characteristics of mesoporous silica nanotubes modified by titanium dioxide, as well as their antimicrobial properties and influence on mitochondrial activity of mouse fibroblast L929. Nanocrystalized titania is confined in mesopores of silica nanotubes and its light activated antibacterial response is revealed. The analysis of the antibacterial effect on E...

In order to reduce the harmful constituents in cigarette smoke, two hierarchical composites were synthesized. Based on, zeolites HZSM-5 or NaY fragments were introduced into the synthetic system of mesoporous silica SBA-15 or MCM-41 and assembled with the mesoporous materials. These porous composites combine the advantages of micro- and mesoporous materials, and exhibit higher effects than acti...

The purpose of this study is to apply optical waveguide (OWG) spectroscopy to characterize the encapsulation behavior of enzymes modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG), i.e. pegylation, in a hydrophobic mesoporous silica film. For that purpose, pegylated myoglobin (PEG-Mb) was introduced into the silica mesopores modified with octadecylsilyl (ODS) groups and studied by OWG spectroscopy. OWG ...

We report a preparation method for the synthesis of monodisperse magnetic polymer/silica hybrid microspheres using polymer microspheres incorporated with magnetic nanoparticles as a novel template. Monodisperse, hierarchically mesoporous, silica microspheres embedded with magnetic nanoparticles were successfully fabricated after the calcination of the hybrid microspheres. The magnetic nanoparti...

A new class of nitrogen-doped ordered mesoporous carbon/silica (N-OMC/SiO2) nanocomposites was successfully fabricated via a multi-constituent co-assembly strategy. The N-OMC/SiO2 nanocomposite presented a unique interpenetrating carbon/silica structure whose carbon/silica interface is highly uniform, and thus demonstrated high capacity, good cycling and excellent rate properties.

In this study, highly ordered mesoporous silica material (SBA-15) functionalized with Diethyl 2 - (9 -fluorenyl) malonate as a flourophore is reported. The anchoring of flourophores to the hydroxyl group on SBA-15 surface was done with post synthesis method. The obtained materials were characterized by small and wide angle X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption–desorption, Fourier transform infrared ...

Mesoporous silica materials are promising host structures for diverse applications in nanoscience. Many applications can profit significantly from the ability to influence guest dynamics in the host matrix. To this end, we introduce covalently attached organic functionalization into the walls of mesoporous silica networks. Using single-molecule fluorescence microscopy, we study the diffusion be...

New nanoporous carbons with extremely high mesopore volumes and surface areas were obtained using mesoporous silica with a 3-D wormhole porous framework as templates. Mesoporous silica was synthesized following the literature described methods. Polystyrene sulfonic acid-based organic salts were used as carbon precursors. To evaluate the effect of sodium on porosity development silica matrices w...
