Most carpal dislocations occur in the lunate bone or around it (perilunate). An isolated dislocation of the carpal scaphoid is a rare injury. We report a case of a palmar scaphoid dislocation combined with a dorsal perilunate dislocation, which was treated with open reduction, fixed with two Kirschner wires and ligament repair, with a good result.

BACKGROUND In high-income countries, 6% of all women will have sustained a fracture of the wrist (distal radius) by the age of 80 years and 9% by the age of 90 years. Advances in orthopaedic surgery have improved the outcome for patients: many such fractures can be treated in a plaster cast alone, but others require surgical fixation to hold the bone in place while they heal. The existing evide...

OBJECTIVES To compare the clinical effectiveness of Kirschner wire fixation with locking plate fixation for patients with a dorsally displaced fracture of the distal radius. DESIGN A multicentre two arm parallel group assessor blind randomised controlled trial with 1:1 treatment allocation. SETTING 18 trauma centres in the United Kingdom. PARTICIPANTS 461 adults with a dorsally displaced ...

OBJECTIVE : This paper reports the incidence, origin, course and anatomical relationships of intramuscular Martin-Gruber anastomosis. METHODS : Anatomical dissection of 100 limbs from 50 adults cadavers was performed. The intramuscular Martin-Gruber anastomosis was found in five forearms, three in the right and two in the left side, one was bilateral. All communication were located between th...

The number of households and businesses using HFC cable networks for Internet access is rapidly approaching 40 million in the United States. The cable industry has standardized on a single MAC and physical layer standard, the Data Over Cable System Interface Specification (DOCSIS). The emerging IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless access MAC protocol is based on DOCSIS. We have implemented a simulati...

Heights are functions that measure the arithmetic complexity of an algebraically defined object. They have become a major tool in many branches of number theory such as Diophantine analysis, transcendental number theory, Diophantine approximation, arithmetic of dynamical systems, etc. Moreover, they have also some very subtle functorial and functional properties, making it worthwile to study th...

In this paper we define Martin-Löf complexes to be algebras for monads on the category of (reflexive) globular sets which freely add cells in accordance with the rules of intensional Martin-Löf type theory. We then study the resulting categories of algebras for several theories. Our principal result is that there exists a cofibrantly generated Quillen model structure on the category of 1-trunca...

Martin Matzuk, director of the Center for Drug Discovery at Baylor College of Medicine, recalls a childhood visit to the New Jersey office of orthopedic surgeon Joseph Lepree. “I was always impressed at how full his waiting room was and the time that he spent examining me and speaking with my father,” says Matzuk. “On one visit, he askedmewhat I wanted to bewhen I grew up, and I said, ‘a doctor...

BACKGROUND The physis is the weakest component of immature long bones, and physeal fractures constitute about 30% of fractures in growing dogs. Fractures of the proximal humeral physis typically have a Salter Harris type I or II configuration. These fractures require accurate reduction and adequate stabilization to allow for any potential continued longitudinal bone growth, in conjunction with ...
