We suggest a novel approach to soliton control and routing based on Bloch-wave filtering in periodic photonic structures. Taking a binary waveguide array as an example, we demonstrate that spatial solitons that belong to different spectral gaps can be selectively reflected from or transmitted through an engineered defect, which acts as a low- or high-pass filter for Bloch waves.

We introduce a geometric condition of Bloch type which guarantees that a subset of a bounded convex domain in several complex variables is degenerate with respect to every iterated function system. Furthermore we discuss the relations of such a Bloch type condition with the analogous hyperbolic Lipschitz condition.

We derive radiative transport equations for solutions of a Schrodinger equation in a periodic structure with small random inhomogeneities. We use systematically the Wigner transform and the Bloch wave expansion.
