Aromatic plants are plants that possess aromatic compounds, most of which are essential oils which are volatile in room temperature. They have traditionally been used as raw materials for extraction of essential oils (which, in turn, are used in the flavor and fragrance industries), as well as the sources of spices, herbs, and other natural products such as traditional medicines, pharmaceutical...

The aim of this study was to develop a storm water quality improvement strategy plan (WQISP) which assists managers and decision makers of local city councils in enhancing their activities to improve regional water quality. City of Gosnells in Western Australia has been considered as a case study. The procedure on developing the WQISP consists of reviewing existing water quality data, identifyi...

5 Calibration and validation of the Land Use Scanner allocation algorithms The Land Use Scanner is a spatial model that simulates future land use. Since its development in 1997, it has been applied in many policy-related land-use projects. In 2005, a completely revised version became available. In this version, land use can be modelled on a reduced scale, the smallest resolution now being 100 m...

Multiple endmember spectral mixture analysis (MESMA) models mixed spectra as a linear combination of endmembers that are allowed to vary in number and type on a per pixel basis. For modeling an image using MESMA, a parsimonious set of endmembers is desirable for computational efficiency and operational simplicity. This paper presents a method of selecting endmembers from a spectral library for ...

Urbanisation, efficiency improvement in agriculture, and the transition to a post-industrial economy in Europe and North America has taken large areas of land out of human use that could be returned to a ‘natural’ state. But what exactly is natural, and how much or how little ecosystem engineering should be involved in rewilding efforts? Michael Gross reports.

Progress in the scientific application of space-based scatterometer data over the past two decades is reviewed. There has been continuous improvement in coverage, resolution, and accuracy. Besides the traditional applications in weather and ocean-atmosphere interaction, which are based on ocean surface wind vectors, emerging applications over land and ice are also described. Future missions and...

In this paper five different sensor data fusion options for the detection of anti-personnel land-mines are presented. The performance of these options are evaluated in a case study of estimated figures for mines and possible false alarm generating objects. Dempster-Shafer with proper mappings and rule based fusion provided the best result and an improvement over single sensor solutions.
