Background and Aims: Recently it has been proved that some of Enterobacteriacea like Klebsiella pneumoniae, which carry PKS islands, damage dsDNA by encoding Colibactin genotoxin; and finally they induce some apoptosis in damaged mucosal cells. This study aimed to isolating the clbN and clbB genes, which are the markers of the PKS genomic island, from PKS cluster in these bacteria Materials ...

Introduction: Klebsiella pneumoniae has been associated with different types of infections and one of the most important aspects of Klebsiella is the emergence of multi drug resistant strains particularly those involved in nosocomial diseases. Materials and methods: A total number of 800 sputum, 148 pus and 850 urine samples from September 2013 to August 2014 were included in the study. Isolate...

Klebsiella (K.) pneumoniae is a common cause of pneumonia-derived sepsis. Myeloid related protein 8 (MRP8, S100A8) and MRP14 (S100A9) are the most abundant cytoplasmic proteins in neutrophils. They can form MRP8/14 heterodimers that are released upon cell stress stimuli. MRP8/14 reportedly exerts antimicrobial activity, but in acute fulminant sepsis models MRP8/14 has been found to contribute t...

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a common cause of nosocomial pneumonia. Osteopontin (OPN) is a phosphorylated glycoprotein involved in inflammatory processes, some of which is mediated by CD44. The aim of this study was to determine the role of OPN during K. pneumoniae-induced pneumonia. Wild-type (WT) and OPN knockout (KO) mice were intranasally infected with 10⁴ colony forming units of K. pneumoniae...

AIM To isolate and characterize bacteriophage lytic for the opportunistic pathogen Klebsiella oxytoca and their formulation into a range of solid dosage forms for in-vitro testing. METHODS AND RESULTS We report the isolation, genomic and functional characterization of a novel bacteriophage lytic for Klebsiella oxytoca, which does not infect the closely related Klebsiella pneumoniae. This bact...

Klebsiella pneumoniae is ubiquitous in the environment and is a member of a three-species biofilm model. We compared the genome sequence of an environmental isolate, K. pneumoniae strain KP-1, to those of two clinical strains (NTUH-K2044 and MGH 78578). KP-1 possesses strain-specific prophage sequences that distinguish it from the clinical strains.

Klebsiella sp. cause a wide range of human infections, particularly nosocomial septicaemia, pneumonia and urinary tract infections. Like other Enterobacteriaceae, Klebsiella are likely to possess plastic genomes comprised of core regions interspersed with horizontally acquired genomic islands. As phenylalanine tRNA genes are known to be occupied by islands in other Enterobacteriaceae, we utiliz...

We present the draft genome of highly drug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae KGM-IMP216, isolated from a urine sample collected from a patient in Lebanon. The draft genome sequence consisted of 77 contigs, including a combined 5,731,500 bases with 57% G+C content.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a potentially disabling rheumatic disease for which no curative treatment has yet been discovered. An extensive computer-based and manual search was undertaken to evaluate the role of microbes in the pathogenesis of AS. All together 147 papers were scrutinised. A total of 24 studies carried out on 1330 AS patients and 1191 healthy controls involving 15 different c...

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most commonly encountered infections, both in the community and in hospitals. The study investigated the Prevalence of Klebsiella species among patients suspected of UTI in Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, Nigeria. Two hundred urine specimens of patients comparing of 135(67.5%) outpatients and 65(32.5%) inpatients and classified into 125(...
