Posttranscriptional control of nif mRNA stability was demonstrated by functional and chemical analyses, using specific probes for four nif transcripts. In the wild type, nif transcripts (except nifLA) were stable during derepression, with half-lives of approximately 30 min. They were dramatically destabilized by O2 or elevated temperature (41 degrees C) and to a lesser extent by NH4+. In contra...

1,3-Propanediol dehydrogenase (1,3-PD-DH), encoded by the dhaT gene, is a key enzyme in the dissimilation process for converting glycerol to 1,3-propanediol in the human pathogen Klebsiella pneumoniae. Single colourless crystals were obtained from a recombinant preparation of 1,3-propanediol dehydrogenase overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The crystals belong to space group P2(1), with unit-cel...

Recognition of bacteria by metazoans is mediated by receptors that recognize different types of microorganisms and elicit specific cellular responses. The soil amoebae Dictyostelium discoideum feeds upon a variable mixture of environmental bacteria, and it is expected to recognize and adapt to various food sources. To date, however, no bacteria-sensing mechanisms have been described. In this st...

Klebsiella pneumoniae is an urgent public health threat due to the spread of carbapenem-resistant strains causing serious, and frequently fatal, infections. To facilitate genetic, molecular, and immunological studies of this pathogen, we report the complete chromosomal sequence of a genetically tractable, prototypical strain used in animal models.

CTX-M-10 has been widely disseminated among multiple clones of several species of Enterobacteriaceae, harboring seemingly different plasmids, for over a decade in Ramón y Cajal University Hospital, Madrid, Spain. Cloning and sequencing of a 12.2-kb DNA fragment from plasmid pRYCE21 from Klebsiella pneumoniae strain KP4aC revealed a novel phage-related element immediately upstream of bla(CTX-M-1...

KPN03535 (gi|152972051) is a putative lipoprotein of unknown function that is secreted by Klebsiella pneumoniae MGH 78578. The crystal structure reveals that despite a lack of any detectable sequence similarity to known structures, it is a novel variant of the OB-fold and structurally similar to the bacterial Cpx-pathway protein NlpE, single-stranded DNA-binding (SSB) proteins and toxins. K. pn...

We describe a multiplex real-time PCR assay capable of identifying both the epidemic Klebsiella pneumoniae ST258 clone and bla(KPC) carbapenemase genes in a single reaction. The assay displayed excellent sensitivity (100%) and specificity (100%) for identification of ST258 clone and bla(KPC) in a collection of 75 K. pneumoniae isolates comprising 41 sequence types. Our results suggest that this...

Klebsiella pneumoniae does not fix N(2) under aerobic conditions. The two protein components required for nitrogenase activity were studied during aeration of cells in nitrogen-free media. Component II of nitrogenase was inactivated more slowly in vivo than component I during aeration. The rate of loss of component II was less than the rate of component II synthesis during derepression. No inac...

Abstract Background and objectives: (ESBL) strain is one of the emerging health related problems in the world recently. Some of the species of the gram-negative bacilli including Klebsiella Pneumonia & Escherichia Coli are well known ESBL producing among bacteria, and they cause uncontrollable infections. This Cross-sectional study was designed to asses the ESBL producing gra...
