Isolated membrane vesicles from Escherichia coli B grown on DL-alanine and glycerol carry out amino acid active transport coupled to a membrane-bound D-alanine dehydrogenase (Kaczorowski, G., Shaw, L., Fuentes, M., and Walsh, C. (1975) J. Biol. Chem. 250, 2855). Certain L-amino acids can also energize solute transport by conversion to their D isomers via an alanine reacemase. Both D-chloroalani...

This paper uncovers novel and specific dynamical mechanisms that initiate large-amplitude collective motions in polyatomic molecules. These mechanisms are understood in terms of intramolecular energy transfer between modes and driving forces. Structural transition dynamics of a six-atom cluster between a symmetric and an elongated isomer is highlighted as an illustrative example of what is a ge...

CCG-1423 suppresses several pathological processes including cancer cell migration, tissue fibrosis, and the development of atherosclerotic lesions. These suppressions are caused by inhibition of myocardin-related transcription factor A (MRTF-A), which is a critical factor for epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). CCG-1423 can therefore be a potent inhibitor for EMT. CCG-1423 and related com...

Chemical stabilities of six low-energy isomers of C24 derived from global-minimum search are investigated. The six isomers include one classical fullerene (isomer 1) whose cage is composed of only five- and six-membered rings (56-MRs), three nonclassical fullerene structures whose cages contain at least one four-membered ring (4-MR), one plate, and one monocyclic ring. Chemical and electronic p...

High-level ab initio molecular-orbital methods have been employed to determine the relative stability among four neutral and anionic B20 isomers, particularly the double-ring tubular isomer versus three low-lying planar isomers. Calculations with the fourth-order Moller-Plessset perturbation theory [MP4(SDQ)] and Dunning's correlation consistent polarized valence triple zeta basis set as well a...

Insulin and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) share high sequence homology, but their folding behaviors are significantly different: insulin folds into one unique thermodynamically controlled structure, while IGF-1 folds into two thermodynamically controlled disulfide isomers. However, the origin of their different folding behaviors is still elusive. The amphioxus insulin-like peptide (ILP) ...

The steam-distilled essential oil from Artemisia persica growing wild in Iran was analyzed by GC/MS. In all 50 compounds were identified; Davanone (60.56%), Cis Chrysanthenyl acetate (8.65%), Limonene (5.68%), ? Pinene (3.74%), Davanone ether isomer + (3.6%) and ? Thujene (3.6%) were the main components of the oil respectively.
