Abstract Based on the existing fairing, 2D structure of fairing is improved. Through numerical simulation shape and height spoiler analysis comparison obtained data, with good vortex-induced vibration suppression designed. The results show that H = 6.5 mm’s semicircular 45° tail-angle middle line side has a effect suppressing vortex vibration.

A hand-arm vibration syndrome occurs in some workers who use hand held vibrating tools. It is recognised to consist of white fingers, diffusely distributed finger neuropathy, pain in the arm and hand, and a small excess risk of osteoarthrosis from percussion to the wrist and elbow. Carpal tunnel syndrome is mainly due to ergonomic factors other than vibration, but certain factors related to vib...

Snakes lack both an outer ear and a tympanic middle ear, which in most tetrapods provide impedance matching between the air and inner ear fluids and hence improve pressure hearing in air. Snakes would therefore be expected to have very poor pressure hearing and generally be insensitive to airborne sound, whereas the connection of the middle ear bone to the jaw bones in snakes should confer acut...

Helicopter vibration signatures induced by severe atmospheric turbulence ha\ e been shown to differ considerably from nominal, still air vibration. The perturbations of the transmission frequency have significant implications for the design of passive and active vibration alleviation devices, which are generally tuned to the nominal vibration frequency. This thesis investigates the existence of...

AIM Assessment of the specific clinical manifestations of hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) or whole-body vibration syndrome (WBVS). PATIENTS AND METHODS Seventy-six patients (34 with HAVS and 33 with WBVS) were examined analysing the data from their medical history, clinical examinations and autonomic nervous system study, capillaroscopy, distal Doppler ultrasound study, vibrotactile sense,...

Research on shunted piezoelectric transducers, performed mainly over the past decade, has generated new opportunities for control of vibration and damping in flexible structures. This is made possible by the strong electromechanical coupling associated with modern piezoelectric transducers. In vibration control applications, a piezoelectric transducer is bonded to, or embedded in a base structu...

The flow-induced vibration (FIV) of a rectangular cylinder with side ratio 4 at Re = 300 is numerically investigated by two-dimensional spectral-element method. constrained to vibrate only in the cross-flow direction. effects mass and damping are studied. Boss typical FIV, vortex-induced (VIV), galloping were found. Although quasi-steady theory predicts that will not occur for 4:1 cylinder, we ...

Sinusoidal vibrations (10-100 Hz, 0.5-2.5%) reduced catch tension in the anterior byssal retractor muscle of Mytilus edulis, while the stiffness measured as the tension increment in response to the stretch phase of vibration did not change appreciably, indicating that the vibration-induced reduction of catch tension may not be simply explained as being due to the detachment of cross-links betwe...

In 1972, J.T.P. Yao introduced the modern control theory into vibration control of civil structures (Yao, 1972), which started the new era of research on structural active control in civil engineering field. During the development of nearly 40 years, Active Mass Driver/Damper (AMD) control, with the better control effect and cheaper control cost, has taken the lead in various active control occ...

These experiments were designed to investigate illusions of movements of the fingers produced by combined feedback from muscle spindle receptors and receptors located in different regions of the skin of the hand. Vibration (100 Hz) applied in cyclic bursts (4 s 'on', 4 s 'off') over the tendons of the finger extensors of the right wrist produced illusions of flexion-extension of the fingers. Cu...
