The state of a stochastic process evolving over a time t is typically assumed to lie on a normal distribution whose width scales like t^{1/2}. However, processes in which the probability distribution is not normal and the scaling exponent differs from 1/2 are known. The search for possible origins of such "anomalous" scaling and approaches to quantify them are the motivations for the work repor...
Mammalian dentin universally shows circadian increments. However, little is known about the mechanism of this phenomenon. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the role of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) in the generation of circadian rhythm in dentin increment. Rats underwent lesion of the SCN by electrodes and were maintained under constant light to examine whether the circadi...
Transport of passive, dissolved compounds in fully-saturated complex porous media frequently exhibits non-Fickian characteristics. One of the most interesting questions is to ascertain the time scales at which it is possible to describe transport as a statistically independent process. Therefore, we study the mechanisms for evolution and then the decrease of non-Fickianity as a function of incr...
The study is based on the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) three-dimensional variational (3DVAR) data assimilation system. Based two different control variables, effects of radar radial velocity in forecasting tropical cyclone (TC) Kompasu were evaluated. single observation experiment showed that DA_ψχ produces cyclonic increments, while DA_UV only increments same direction as obser...
Under some relaxed conditions, in this paper we obtain some equivalent conditions on the asymptotics of the density of the supremum of a random walk with heavy-tailed increments. To do this, we investigate the asymptotics of the first ascending ladder height of a randomwalk with heavy-tailed increments. The results obtained improve and extend the corresponding classical results.
<0.02°C temperature increments on a system with <0.02°C uniformity variability (Tesoriero 2008). However, successful discrimination of sequence variants, including the most difficult-to-detect class IV SNPs, is not solely dependent on the temperature increments from which melt data are collected. Several factors influence DNA melting behavior, including reaction mix composition, amplicon size, ...
Roughly speaking, this update rule is based on the following idea: increase the number of feature increments when the performance improves (i.e., the model is not at optimum), and decrease the number of feature increments when there is minimal or no performance improvement (i.e., the model has converged). From this intuition, we consider the following update rule (referred to as “update rule I”):
count (mean increments: 68 109/L and 87 109/L at day 0 and day 1, respectively), but this was significantly and consistently less over the lifespan of the transfused platelets than the mean increment seen with AC-Tx (116 109/L and 146 109/L on days 0 and 1, respectively). More importantly, the survival of the random platelets was only approximately half that of antigen-compatible platelets (T1/...
