We show interesting relations between extremal partition functions of a family of conformal field theories and dimensions of the irreducible representations of the Fischer-Griess Monster sporadic group. We argue that these relations can be interpreted as an extension of Monster moonshine.
Defending a territory must have significant costs, such as expenditure of energy by the territorial animal, loss of time that could be devoted to other activities, and increased danger from predation or injury during defensive activities. A fundamental assumption of studies of animal territorial behavior is that there must be some profit from the behavior that more than offsets the obvious cost...

BACKGROUND Diarrhea remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children under 5 years of age, but in many low and middle-income countries where vital registration data are lacking, updated estimates with regard to the proportion of deaths attributable to diarrhea are needed. METHODS We conducted a systematic literature review to identify studies reporting diarrhea prop...
BACKGROUND The evidence regarding the association between lung cancer and occupational exposure to cement is controversial. METHODS The deaths of the Greek Cement Workers Compensation Scheme were analyzed covering the period 1969-1998. All respiratory, lung, laryngeal and urinary bladder cancer pro...

The conditions that are generally considered to justify the use of the proportionate mortality ratio (PMR) to compare exposed and nonexposed populations also permit the computation of the ratio of mortality odds between the cause (of death) of interest and the "other" causes considered. This mortality odds ratio (MOR) comparing the exposed with the nonexposed equals the exposure odds ratio comp...
