In this paper; we describe a visualization methodfor general logic clauses as the first step of a visualization of logic programs. Since we think inclusion is essential to represent an outline of knowledge, we propose a method based on Euler diagrams to visualize in$rence rules represented as a set of general logic clauses which consist of literals with no variable. We develop a prototype syste...

The ADI iteration is closely related to the rational Krylov projection methods for constructing low rank approximations to the solution of Sylvester equation. In this paper we show that the ADI and rational Krylov approximations are in fact equivalent when a special choice of shifts are employed in both methods. We will call these shifts pseudo H2-optimal shifts. These shifts are also optimal i...

distinct target of this paper is development of 'implicit discrete element method (dem)' in three dimensions for estimating the ultimate bearing capacity of shallow foundations on layered (non-homogeneous) soils consisting of sand overlying sand or clay overlying sand and vice versa with different shear resisting parameters. in this method, shear resisting parameters and density of ea...

We describe methods for computing an implicit model of a hypersurface that is given only by a finite sampling. The methods work by mapping the sample points into a reproducing kernel Hilbert space and then determining regions in terms of hyperplanes.

In this paper, stochastic age-structure population system with jump are studied. It is proved that the semi-implicit Euler approximation solutions converge to the analytic solution for the stochastic age-structured population system with Poisson jump. The analysis use ˆ Ito s ′ formula, Burkholder-DavisGundy's inequality, Gronwall's lemma and some inequalities for our purposes.

In this paper we study user behavior in online dating, in particular the differences between the implicit and explicit user preferences. The explicit preferences are stated by the user while the implicit preferences are inferred based on the user behavior on the website. We first show that the explicit preferences are not a good predictor of the success of user interactions. We then propose to ...

Implicit surface techniques provide useful tools for modeling and rendering smooth surfaces. Deriving implicit formulations for fractal representations extends the scope of implicit surface techniques to rough surfaces. Linear fractals modeled by recurrent iterated function systems may be defined implicitly using either geometric distance or escape time. Random fractals modeled using Perlin’s n...

In Buoni and Petzold (2007) [13] we described a new algorithm for simulation of electrochemical systems on two-dimensional irregular, time-dependent domains. Here we show how to extend the algorithm to three dimensions. We demonstrate our three-dimensional algorithm by simulating copper electrodeposition into a via structure. This problem poses challenges for the coupling of the dilute electrol...

In this paper we consider a passive scalar transported in two-dimensional flow. The governing equation is that of the convection–diffusion–reaction equation. For purposes of computational efficiency, we apply an alternating-direction implicit scheme akin to that proposed by Polezhaev. Use of this implicit operator-splitting scheme allows the application of a tridiagonal Thomas solver to obtain ...
