Background and Aims: Human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV) is a human retrovirus which has been known to cause adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma and some other inflammatory disorders. Patients with hereditary bleeding diseases are at high risk for these viruses. In this study, we evaluated serological HTLV-I/II infection among these patients in west Azerbaijan of Iran. Material and Methods: We stud...

Short or damaged telomeres have been implicated in degenerative conditions. We hypothesized that analysis of telomere length (TL) in human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV) infection and HTLV-associated neuropathy might provide clues to the etiology of HTLV-associated disease and viral dynamics. A subset of 45 human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1), 45 human T-cell lymphotropic virus ty...

human t-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 , 2 (htlv-1, 2) is endemic in particular areas of the world in which it is associated with myeloid leukemia.in this study, we described the prevalence of htlv-1, 2 in myeloid leukemia and mycobacterium tuberculosis in iran. we have worked with tissue and blood samples for 2 years. these were the same samples which were positive for myeloid leukemia, mycoba...

We reported two cases of patients with coinfection by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1 and human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV) type I who developed opportunistic infections despite of relatively high CD4+ cells count. These cases showed clinical evidence to consider an earlier antiretroviral treatment for coinfected patientes regardless CD4+ cells counts.

Nine strains of Campylobacter species other than Campylobacter jejuni, Campylobacter coli, and Campylobacter laridis were isolated from patients with acute diarrhea. All nine strains showed preferred growth at 37 degrees C under microaerophilic conditions. Conventional microbiological tests and DNA-DNA dot blotting were used to identify these strains. Three of the nine Campylobacter strains hyd...

With this study, the authors hope to alert clinicians regarding the presence of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 and 2 (HTLV-1/-2) infections in patients with viral hepatitis B and C in Brazil. HTLV-1/-2 were detected in 1.3% of hepatitis B virus (HBV)- and 5.3% of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected blood samples sent for laboratory viral load measurements. A partial association of human im...
