Primary rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) of the kidney is a rare malignant mesenchymal tumor with an aggressive clinical course. Adult renal RMS is typically a pleomorphic histologic subtype and only a few cases have ever been reported. We herein present a new case of renal RMS of the embryonal histologic subtype in a 26-year-old woman.
In the United States, ovarian carcinoma remains the most deadly gynecologic malignancy, and approximately 14,000 deaths are projected from the disease in 2017 [1]. Ovarian carcinoma comprises various histologic subtypes based on the cell of origin, with serous carcinoma being the most common subtype. Serous ovarian carcinomas are commonly grouped into 2 types based on histologic characteristics...
Many neoplasms have occurred in the respiratory tract of white Pekin ducks following one intratracheal injection of methylcholanthrene suspended in a 1.0 per cent aqueous solution of polysorbate 80. No tumors occurred when only polysorbate was injected. The histologic type of the tumors varied. Some were neurofibromas, and others were ganglioneuromas, hemangiomas, squamous cell-like carcinomas,...
Primary coronary sinus tumors are extremely rare. Herein, we present a case of a pregnant woman with a primary myxoma in the coronary sinus (CS), which was diagnosed by echocardiography and computed tomography. We reviewed the literature and found two other primary CS tumors. We summarized the gender, ages, symptoms, diagnostic methods, associated anomalies, treatments, histologic findings, and...
Sarcomas are a broad family of mesenchymal malignancies exhibiting remarkable histologic diversity. We describe the multi-platform molecular landscape of 206 adult soft tissue sarcomas representing 6 major types. Along with novel insights into the biology of individual sarcoma types, we report three overarching findings: (1) unlike most epithelial malignancies, these sarcomas (excepting synovia...
BACKGROUND Optical coherence tomography (OCT) allows tissue histologic-like evaluation, but without tissue fixation or staining. We investigated OCT images from tissues obtained at thyroid and parathyroid surgeries to provide a preliminary assessment as to whether these images contain sufficient information for recognition and differentiation of normal neck tissues. METHODS Normal tissues wer...
Several types of cysts in the mediastinum have been described, such as bronchogenic or thymic cysts and esophageal duplications, most of which arise in the middle or posterior mediastinum close to the tracheobronchial system or the esophagus. We present herein the rare case of a ciliated cyst anatomically distant to the genitourinary organs. An abnormal formation in the posterior mediastinum wa...
Background and Aim: Cicatricial alopecia is characterized by permanent destruction of the pilosebaceous unit, leading to irreversible hair loss, and has primary and secondary types. Primary type, based on predominant inflammatory infiltration in histology, is divided to neutrophilic, lymphocytic and mix types. Decalvans folliculitis, dissecting cellulitis and acne keloidalis are 3 subtypes...
