A case of posterior dislocation of the long head of biceps tendon, a rare occurrence following traumatic anterior glenohumeral dislocation, along with complete rotator cuff rupture and large haemarthrosis is presented with imaging and intra-operative findings. The interposed tendon prevented complete reduction. Appearances at MRI were diagnostic and directed the surgical approach.
Home therapy for uncomplicated mild/moderate bleeding can decrease healthcare burden, promote self-esteem, reduce complications, and provide near-normal quality of life. To evaluate recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) as home therapy for joint bleeds in Algeria, Morocco, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates. Twenty-seven patients aged more than 2 years with congenital haemophilia ...
Arterial injury is a rare complication of knee replacement. We present a delayed presentation which was proven with arteriography and successfully treated with embolisation rather than open surgery. In atypical clinical pictures of swelling and equivocal inflammatory markers, clinicians should consider the differential diagnosis of persistent arterial bleeding.
A patient with Portuguese familial amyloid polyneuropathy who developed haemarthroses secondary to pathological fractures is described. Amyloid material was demonstrated on bone biopsy and confirmed immunohistochemically to be transthyretin (prealbumin). Although amyloid deposits in bone have been described in other types of amyloid, this is believed to be the first proved case of amyloid depos...
We have investigated whether cells derived from haemarthrosis caused by injury to the anterior cruciate ligament could differentiate into the osteoblast lineage in vitro. Haemarthroses associated with anterior cruciate ligament injuries were aspirated and cultured. After treatment with beta-glycerophosphate, ascorbic acid and dexamethasone or 1,25 (OH)(2)D(3), a significant increase in the acti...
The development of inhibitors against administered clotting factors may render replacement therapy ineffective for some hemophilia patients. Such patients are therefore at the highest risk of developing arthropathy. Elective orthopedic surgery (EOS) in hemophilic patients having such inhibitors remains a rare, expensive, and difficult surgery, whose management represents a significant challenge...
INTRODUCTION Haemophilia A is the most common inherited X-linked recessive bleeding disorder. The severity of the resultant bleeding diathesis depends on the FVIII levels associated with the mutation. Analysis of carrier state can be made indirectly by DNA linkage analysis or directly by identifying the mutation that leads to the disease. The aim of this study was to identification of the causa...
UNLABELLED Acquired hemophilia A is a rare, but devastating bleeding disorder caused by spontaneous development of autoantibodies directed against coagulation factor VIII. In 40%-50% of patients it is associated with such conditions as the postpartum period, malignancy, use of medications, and autoimmune diseases; however, its cause is unknown in most cases. Acquired hemophilia A should be susp...
