A study of collective behavior in heavy ion collisions provides one of the most sensitive and promising probes for investigation of possible formation of new extreme state of strong interacting matter and elucidating its properties. Systematic of experimental results for final state azimuthal anisotropy is presented for heavy ion interactions at RHIC. Experimental data for azimuthal anisotropy ...
In these lectures I review the foundations and the applications of the statistical hadronization model to elementary and relativistic heavy ion collisions. The role of strangeness production and the general interpretation of results is addressed. Lectures given at the 4th edition of the school Quark-Gluon Plasma and Heavy Ion Collisions : past, present, future Torino (Italy), 8-14 December 2008
Jet quenching measurements using leading particles and their correlations suffer from known biases, which can be removed via direct reconstruction of jets in central heavy ion collisions. In this talk, we discuss several modern jet reconstruction algorithms and background subtraction techniques that are appropriate to heavy ion collisions.
Selected topics in the field of relativistic heavy-ion collisions are reviewed from the 15 year research programme at the SPS at CERN and the AGS at BNL, and from the first run of the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider at BNL.
Advancement of nuclear physics and high power heavy ion accelerator is always a driving force for persistent development of highly charged ECR ion source. Increasing demands for more intense and higher charge state heavy ion beams have dramatically promoted development of ECR ion source technology and physics. This talk provides an overview of intense highly charged superconducting ECR ion sour...
We argue that Clustering in heavy ion collisions could be the missing element in resolving the so-called HBT puzzle, and briefly discuss the different physical situations where clustering could be present. We then propose a method by which clustering in heavy ion collisions could be detected in a model-independent way
To address the dilepton production in a hot and dense medium – as created in heavy-ion collisions – we employ an up-to-date relativistic transport model, i.e. the Parton Hadron String Dynamics [1] (PHSD) that incorporates the explicit partonic phase in the early reaction region. The approach consistently describes the full evolution of a relativistic heavy-ion collision from the initial hard sc...
The status of CMS jet simulations and physics analysis in heavy ion collisions is presented. Jet reconstruction and high-pT particle tracking in the high multiplicity environment of heavy ion collisions at the LHC using the CMS calorimetry and tracking system are described. The Monte Carlo tools used to simulate jet quenching are discussed.
We report recent results from a multiphase transport (AMPT) model on the azimuthal anisotropies of particle momentum distributions in heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These include higher-order anisotropic flows and their scaling, the rapidity dependence of anisotropic flows, and the elliptic flow of charm quarks. PACS numbers: 25.75.Ld, 24.10.Lx
Apparently universal trends have been observed in relativistic nucleusnucleus collisions up to RHIC energies. Here, we review these trends and we discuss their agnostic extrapolation to heavy ion collisions at the LHC. PACS numbers: 12.38.Mh, 25.75.Nq Invited topical review for J. Phys. G: Nucl. Part. Phys. Predictions for the LHC heavy ion programme 2
