Carcinoma of the nasal vestibule often requires radical surgical excision, which results in total or partial loss of the nose followed by radiation therapy. A noninvasive, cost-effective technique for rehabilitation of a patient with squamous cell carcinoma of the nasal vestibule following partial rhinectomy and radiation therapy using heat-polymerizing clear acrylic resin is presented.

OBJECTIVES The absorption of water by acrylic resins is a phenomenon of considerable importance since it is accompanied by dimensional changes, a further undesirable effect of absorbed water in acrylic resins to reduce the tensile strength of the material. Solubility is also an important property because it represents the mass of soluble materials from the polymers. METHODS Ten acrylic resin-...

Acrylic resins are used as denture base materials since 1937 (Craig, 1993) and heat-cured Poly(methyl-methacrylate) (PMMA) (Lay et al., 2004) composed by methyl methacrylate monomers chains is the most popular of them. Virtually, dentures are constructed from conventional polymer/monomer (Lay et al., 2004) processed by heat water-bath system and compression molding technique (Ganzarolli et al.,...

BACKGROUND Regular usage of denture cleansers is recommended in complete denture wearers for effective plaque control, and these cleansers alter the physical properties of acrylic resin over a period of time. Thus, an in vitro study was carried out to assess the effect of denture cleansers on the color stability of heat-cure denture base resin. AIM The aim of the present study was to evaluate...

BACKGROUND The application of computer-aided design computer-aided manufacturing (CAD CAM) technology in the fabrication of complete dentures, offers numerous advantages as it provides optimum fit and eliminates polymerization shrinkage of the acrylic base. Additionally, the porosity and surface roughness of CAD CAM resins is less compared to conventionally processed resins which leads to a dec...

INTRODUCTION The aim of the study is to evaluate interfacial bond strength between silicone prosthetic elastomers and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). MATERIALS AND METHODS Silicone elastomers were attached to PMMA and a total 120 specimens were fabricated which were then subdivided into 12 sub-groups. Each sample was then subjected to laboratory test to determine the bond strength. The specime...

Objectives. To evaluate the surface hardness of two light-cured resin cements polymerized under different ceramic discs. Methods. 40 experimental groups of 2 light-cured resin cement specimens (Variolink Veneer and NX3) were prepared and polymerized under 5 different ceramic discs (IPS e.max Press HT, LT, MO, HO, and Cercon) of 4 thicknesses (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mm), Those directly activated...

Denture stomatitis is a very common disease affecting the oral mucosa of denture wearers. The aim of this study was to measure the antifungal effect of henna against Candida albicans adhered to acrylic resin as a possible method for prevention of denture stomatitis. One-hundred-eighty acrylic plates were prepared of heat-cured acrylic denture resin. The specimens were divided into six groups of...
