The effect of subcritical hadron bubbles on a first-order quark-hadron phase transition is studied. These subcritical hadron bubbles created due to thermal fluctuations introduce a finite amount of phase mixing (quark phase mixed with hadron phase) even at and above the critical temperature. For sufficiently strong transitions, as is expected to be the case for the quark-hadron transition, we s...

It is shown that the hadron production in high energy pp, pp̄ and eecollisions, calculated by assuming that particles originate in hadron gas fireballs at thermal and partial chemical equilibrium, agrees very well with the data. The temperature of the hadron gas fireballs, determined by fitting hadron abundances, does not seem to depend on the centre of mass energy, having a nearly constant valu...

HERWIG is a general-purpose Monte Carlo event generator, which includes the simulation of hard lepton-lepton, lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron scattering and soft hadron-hadron collisions in one package. It uses the parton-shower approach for initialand final-state QCD radiation, including colour coherence effects and azimuthal correlations both within and between jets. This article updates the ...

Back-to-back hadron pair yields in d+Au and p+p collisions at √s(NN)=200 GeV were measured with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Rapidity separated hadron pairs were detected with the trigger hadron at pseudorapidity |η|<0.35 and the associated hadron at forward rapidity (deuteron direction, 3.0<η<3.8). Pairs were also detected with both hadrons measured at forward ra...

A simple thermal model with single freeze-out and flow is used to analyze the ratios of hadron yields and the hadron transverse-mass spectra measured in √ sNN = 130 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. An overall very good agreement between the model predictions and the data is achieved for all measured hadron species including hyperons.

The inclusive charged hadron momentum spectra from the $ and $' decays produced in e+ecoilisions at SPEAR are presented, The data were obtained with a small solid-angle, single-arm magnetic spectrometer with good particle identification abilities centered at 90 degrees with respect to the beams. The particle-separated invariant cross sections are compared with data from e+ecollisions at 6 = 4.8...

By assuming that there is no significant intrinsic polarization of the gluon, we have computed the polarized quark contributions to the proton’s spin under SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking for the polarized sea and have performed a global leading-order QCD fit to obtain the spin-dependent quark distributions, which could be used as input for analyzing lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron collisions.

Hadron physics is that part of QCD dealing with hadron structure and vacuum structure, almost all of which is nonperturbative in nature. Some of the open problems in this field are outlined. We argue that hadron physics is a distinct subfield, no longer within particle physics, and not at all the same as classical nuclear physics. We believe that it needs to be better organized, and that a firs...
