The main text introduces the model framework for ICE age Chemistry And Proxies (ICECAP), a project focused on paleo-chemistry at and since the Last Glacial Maximum. The framework includes the GEOS-Chem 3-D global chemical transport model (CTM; http://www.geos-chem.org), driven by archived meteorology from the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Sciences (GISS) ModelE general circulation model (GCM...

Due to invisibility and complexity of the underground displacement monitoring, there exit few practical monitoring sensors capable of monitoring the underground horizontal and vertical displacements simultaneously. A novel electromagnetic underground displacement sensor able to monitor both the horizontal and the vertical displacements was proposed in our previous studies and abbreviated as the...

An inverse design process is applied to determine blade shapes used in vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs). The method is based on the modified Garabedian-McFadden technique that uses the deviation of the pressure distribution or the velocity distribution on the surface from a target pressure or velocity distribution, and modifies the blade surface in order to reduce this deviation. The method ...

We report 2 cases of Plasmodium falciparum malaria in southern France in a French woman and an American man of Togolese origin who reported no recent travel to malaria-endemic countries. Both infections occurred after a stay near Marseille, which raises the possibility of autochthonous transmission. Entomologic and genotypic investigations are described.

Index words: Laurentian Great Lakes Vertical migration Zooplankton production Deep chlorophyll maxima Non-consumptive effects Zooplankton production plays a critical role in the Great Lakes ecosystem, and vertical migration, which is exhibited by many zooplankton species, could affect production. We examined the effects of water temperature and food resource gradients on the growth rate of zoop...

Effects of optical correction on best-corrected grating acuity (vertical (V), horizontal (H), oblique (O)), vernier acuity (V, H, O), contrast sensitivity (1.5, 6.0, and 18.0 cy/deg spatial frequency, V and H), and stereoacuity were evaluated prospectively in 4- to 13-year-old astigmats and a non-astigmatic age-matched control group. Measurements made at baseline (eyeglasses dispensed for astig...

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(16)H(24)Br(2)N(2)O(2), contains two independent mol-ecules, each which has two intra-molecular N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds linking the amine N atoms to the enolic O atoms of the same acacH-imine unit. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are lined up by inter-molecular weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming two vertical each other two-dimensional chains along the a a...

Although favorable environmental conditions for tropical cyclone (TC) formation have been known a long time, physical factors that influence the timing of TC remain unclear. Idealized numerical simulations are conducted by placing identical disturbances (TDs) in various locations within monsoon trough to examine what affects formation. The is evaluated development time TDs, which ranges from 60...
