Brucella melitensis and Brucella suis are intracellular pathogens of livestock and humans. Here we report four genome sequences, those of the virulent strain B. melitensis M28-12 and vaccine strains B. melitensis M5 and M111 and B. suis S2, which show different virulences and pathogenicities, which will help to design a more effective brucellosis vaccine.

WORTHINGTON, R. W. & MULDERS, MARIAS. G. Antigenic relationship of Brucellaovis to Brucella abortus and Brucella melitensis using the complement fixation test. Onderstepoort J. vet. Res., 36 (2) , 191-1 98, 1969. The CF test was used to investigate the serological relationship of Br. avis to Br. abortus and Br. melitensis. A definite antigenic relationship between Br. avis and Br. abortus could...

The contamination of waterways with fecal material is a persistent threat to public health. Identification of the sources of fecal contamination is a vital component for abatement strategies and for determination of total maximum daily loads. While phenotypic and genotypic techniques have been used to determine potential sources of fecal bacteria in surface waters, most methods require construc...

Brucella species are intracellular zoonotic pathogens which cause, among other pathologies, increased rates of abortion in ruminants. Human infections are generally associated with exposure to contaminated and unpasteurized dairy products; however Brucellae have been developed as bioweapons. Here we present 17 complete and 7 scaffolded genome assemblies of Brucella strains.

Brucella broth without supplementation is the recommended medium for broth microdilution susceptibility tests of Brucella abortus, B. melitensis, and B. suis. Based on an eight-laboratory collaborative study using a pH-adjusted modification of this medium, we propose MIC quality control ranges for three control strains against 10 antimicrobials that are potentially efficacious for treating infe...

In this study, rapid slide agglutination test (RSAT) antigens were produced by using homologous (Brucella canis RM6/66 and a wild B. canis) and heterologous brucella strains (B. abortus 45/20 and B. melitensis B115) for a quick, practical and economic diagnosis of B. canis infection in dogs and humans. All the test strains were grown in three different culture media, namely, trypton liquid medi...

A PCR-based positive hybridization (PPH) method was developed to explore toxic-specific genes in common between toxigenic strains of Anabaena circinalis, a cyanobacterium able to produce saxitoxin (STX). The PPH technique is based on the same principles of suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH), although with the former no driver DNA is required and two tester genomic DNAs are hybridized a...

Brucellosis is a worldwide zoonosis causing reproductive failures in livestock. It is shown that although the vaccine can prevent abortion, it does not provide complete protection against infection. So that vaccination of ewes with Rev.1 biotype can be a source of cattle and even human Brucellosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate possibility of Brucella cross-infection in cattle from Bruc...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa possesses a polar flagellum made up of flagellin subunits that encoded by fliC gene. Flagellin from several strains of P. aeruginosa on the basis of reaction with polyclonal antibodies and apparent molecular weight was divided into a or b types. Material and Methods: After extraction of the genomic DNA from two standard strains 8821M (Type a) and PAO1 (Type b) and some c...

In diagnostic and research bacteriology settings with budget and staff restrictions, fast and cost-effective genome extraction methods are desirable. If not inactivated properly, cellular and/or environmental DNA nucleases will degrade genomic material during the extraction stage, and therefore might give rise to incorrect results in PCR experiments. When crude cell extracts, proteinase K–treat...
