Three-dimensional (3D) ultrasonography has been shown to be an accurate and appropriate tool for measurement of gallbladder volume in humans. Therefore, we applied this novel technique for the first time to study fasting and postprandial gallbladder volume in 10 healthy dogs and compared the results with those of 2-dimensional (2D) ultrasonography. Fasting gallbladder volumes determined by 3D u...

A case of the agenesis of gallbladder detected at laparotomy for symptomatoloy suggestive of gallbladder disease is described. The agenesis of gallbladder, diagnostic inaccuracies and fallacies of ultrasonography for gallbladder disease are discussed. The diagnosis ofagenesis was substantiated on MRCP, done postoperatively.

BACKGROUNDS/AIMS Gallbladder perforation is a rare but potentially fatal disease. We herein present our clinical experience in diagnosis and management of 32 cases of gallbladder perforation. METHODS This retrospective study was conducted with inclusion of all cases of gallbladder perforation that presented to our hospital from January 2012 to November 2014. Cases of traumatic gallbladder per...

The aim of the present study is to investigate if the nucleus raphe obscurus (NRO) participate in regulating the gallbladder motility in rabbits. Rabbits were fasted for about 20-24 hours. After anesthetization with urethane, an incision was made at the middle of the abdomen and the gallbladder was exposed. A frog bladder connected with force transducer was inserted into the gallbladder through...

INTRODUCTION The objective of this study was to assess the variabilities of gallbladder contraction indices (GBCI) and derive a predictive model for gallbladder and gastric motility. METHODS The gallbladder volume and gastric antral measurements were obtained from 24 healthy male volunteers in preprandial and post-milk ingestion states. After preprandial measurement of the gallbladder volume ...

A 73-year-old female was operated with radical nephrectomy and cholecystectomy for renal cell carcinoma and suspected gallstones after 9 courses of sunitinib treatment. Gallbladder specimen showed gallbladder metastasis originating from the renal cell carcinoma. Gallbladder metastasis from renal cell carcinoma is rare. Here, we discuss a case of gallbladder metastasis from renal cell carcinoma.

A liver abscess formation is a rare complication of a gallbladder perforation, with a cholecystohepatic communication. Niemeier, in 1934, classified free gallbladder perforations and generalised biliary peritonitis as an acute or a Type I gallbladder perforation, a pericholecystic abscess and localised peritonitis as a subacute or a Type II gallbladder perforation, and cholecystoenteric fistula...

Dysregulation of gallbladder ion and water absorption and/or secretion has been linked to cholesterol crystal and gallstone formation. We have recently demonstrated that obese, leptin-deficient (Lep(ob)) mice have enlarged gallbladder volumes and decreased gallbladder contractility and that leptin administration to these mice normalizes gallbladder function. However, the effect of leptin on gal...

Pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis (PAM) is a rare disease of unknown origin in which calcific concretions collect in alveolar spaces. No known cause for the disease had been identified and there appears to be no systemic disorder of calcium metabolism. Plain chest X-ray shows a white lung consisting of fine sandlike micro calcification diffusely scattered throughout both lungs with high density...

An analysis of fluid mechanics and diffusion in the gallbladder predicts that there is a thin layer of high bile-constituent concentration near the gallbladder wall. Cholesterol may precipitate in this layer, even when the average cholesterol concentration in the gallbladder is below saturation. The amount precipitated increases with time, with increased average cholesterol concentration, and w...
