Four-stranded nucleic acid structures called G-quadruplexes have been associated with important cellular processes, which should require G-quadruplex-protein interaction. However, the structural basis for specific G-quadruplex recognition by proteins has not been understood. The DEAH (Asp-Glu-Ala-His) box RNA helicase associated with AU-rich element (RHAU) (also named DHX36 or G4R1) specificall...

We report the measurement, in a pulsed hollow-cathode discharge, of metastable quartet atoms of Li and Na. By using a tunable probe laser, population densities of 3x10(10) atoms cm(-3) and 10(11) atoms cm(-3) were measured in the Li(1s2s2p)4P degrees and Na(2p(5)3s3p)(4)D(7/2) levels, respectively. These levels are candidates for energy storage for extreme-ultraviolet lasers.

A chemoproteomic-driven approach was used to investigate the interaction network between human telomeric G-quadruplex DNA and nuclear proteins. We identified novel G-quadruplex binding partners, able to recognize these DNA structures at chromosome ends, suggesting a possible, and so far unknown, role of these proteins in telomere functions.

We have carried out a survey of potential quadruplex structure sequences (PQSS), which occur in the immediate upstream region (500 bp) of human genes. By examining the number and distribution of these we have established that there is a clear link between them and the occurrence of the SP1-binding element 'GGGCGG', such that a large number of upstream PQSS incorporate the SP1-binding element.

The formation of the DNA G-quadruplex is induced by the addition of a novel porphyrin carrying four cationic tethers. Circular dichroism spectroscopy reveals that the porphyrin binds to Tetrahymena telomeric repeat to form G-quadruplex under stabilizing-cation-deficient and no buffer conditions.

The perceived motion of two added sinusoidal gratings of similar amplitude and spatial frequency but different orientations is often coherent. However, when either relative grating contrast or frequency are varied, perception may transform to a motion transparency. For plaids, both multiplicative and additive transparent percepts are reported. To explain perception, several computational models...

G-quadruplex has attracted considerable attention due to their prevalent distribution in functional genomic regions and transcripts, which can importantly influence biological processes such as regulation of telomere maintenance, gene transcription and gene translation. Artificial receptor study has been developed for accurate identification of G-quadruplex from DNA species, since it is importa...

The affinity of an 8-bromodeoxyguanosine- (8-BrdG-) substituted thrombin-binding aptamer (TBA-Br), which has the 1st and 10th guanosine residues replaced with 8-BrdG, was estimated using reflectometric interference spectroscopy (RIfS). When comparing TBA-Br with unmodified TBA (TBA-H), it was demonstrated that the modification effectively improved the affinity of TBA; dissociation constants (K(...

Genetically encoded fluorescent protein tags have revolutionized proteome studies, whereas the lack of intrinsically fluorescent RNAs has hindered transcriptome exploration. Among several RNA-fluorophore complexes that potentially address this problem, RNA Mango has an exceptionally high affinity for its thiazole orange (TO)-derived fluorophore, TO1-Biotin (Kd ∼3 nM), and, in complex with relat...
