Fatigue is the progressive, localized, permanent structural change that occurs in materials subjected to fluctuating stresses and strains that may result in cracks or fracture after a sufficient number of fluctuations. Fatigue fractures are caused by the simultaneous action of cyclic stress, tensile stress and plastic strain. If any one of these three is not present, fatigue cracking will not i...

Background & Aim: Many patients with cancer suffer from fatigue, which may be related to their disease or treatment process. Fatigue aggravates the condition and increases the burden of the disease. Acupressure can be effective as a complementary method for patients' fatigue. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of acupressure on the SP6 point on fatigue in the patients w...

When subjected to alternating stresses, most materials degrade, e.g., suffer premature failure, due to a phenomenon known as fatigue. It is generally accepted that in brittle materials, such as ceramics, cyclic fatigue can only take place where there is some degree of toughening, implying that premature fatigue failure would not be expected in polycrystalline silicon where such toughening is ab...

Cyclic plasticity and creep are the primary design considerations of 1 and 2 stage gas turbine blades. Directionally-solidified (DS) Ni-base materials have been developed to provide (1) greater creep ductility and (2) lower minimum creep rate in solidification direction compared to other directions. Tracking the evolution of deformation in DS structures necessitates a constitutive model having ...

Background & Aim: Fatigue is a premature symptom in patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This study aimed to determine effect of the home-based pulmonary rehabilitation on fatigue among patients with COPD. Methods & Materials: In this clinical trial, 36 patients were recruited among from 100 patients with COPD according to inclusion criteria in Masih Daneshvari hosp...

Studies on the growth of small cracks have led to the observation that fatigue life of many engineering materials is primarily “crack growth” from micro-structural features, such as inclusion particles, voids, slip-bands or from manufacturing defects. This paper reviews the capabilities of a plasticity-induced crack-closure model to predict fatigue lives of metallic materials using “small-crack...

This paper presents the theoretical framework for a coupled plastic damage constitutive model valid for materials subjected to cyclic loads that lead to low and ultra-low cycle fatigue. Two numerical examples were presented in order to illustrate the behaviour of the model and its capabilities.
