excretory-secretory products (esp) play an important role in the host biochemical defense by means of activities of detoxifying and antioxidant enzymes. the aim of this study was to evaluate praziquantel (pzq) effects by detection of glutathione s- transferase (gst) and superoxide dismutase (sod) enzymes activities in esp samples of fasciola spp. fasciola gigantica and fasciola hepatica adult p...
We examined the in vivo activity of tribendimidine against selected trematodes. A single 150-mg/kg dose of tribendimidine achieved a 99.1% reduction of Clonorchis sinensis in rats. A 400-mg/kg dose of tribendimidine reduced Opisthorchis viverrini in hamsters by 95.7%. High doses of tribendimidine showed no activity against Schistosoma mansoni and Fasciola hepatica.
Knowledge of the population dynamics of parasites and their hosts is essential to build veterinary and health programs. The example chosen is that of Fasciola hepatica, a food-borne trematode responsible for severe human and animal infections on the five continents. In this paper, we review the relationships between the liver fluke and its intermediate (mollusc) and definitive (vertebrate) hosts.
As abrupt changes in water temperature (thermal shock) triggered a significantly greater cercarial emergence of Fasciola hepatica from experimentally infected Galba truncatula, laboratory investigations were carried out to study the influence of light on cercarial emergence in snails subjected to a thermal shock every week (a mean of 12 °C for 3 h) during the patent period. Thermal shock for th...
of hepatic aflatoxIn Bi and N-nitrosodiethylamine in infected males and 20-40% in infected females (Kirby et al., 1994). Immunohistochemical analysis of aflatoxIn Bi-DNA adducts in parasitized animaIs indicated that the greatest numbers of adducts occurred in the regions of highest CYP2A activity. Studies with a related liver fluke, Fasciola hepatica, also showed enhanced cyochrome P450-related...
Experimental infections of Egyptian Radix natalensis (shell height at miracidial exposure: 4 mm) with a French isolate of Fasciola hepatica were carried out under laboratory conditions at 22 °C to specify the characteristics and follow the dynamics of their egg-laying. Controls constituted unexposed R. natalensis of the same size. No significant difference between controls and the uninfected sn...
