Metal oxides are a group of compounds that are now intensively studied because of their wide use in modern ceramic materials, composites, nano-composites, etc., with new special properties. Many oxides are used as electronic materials for their electrical, magnetic and optical properties. The mechanisms of corrosion of metals and their alloys, as well as the mechanism of reduction in metallurgi...
Lithium cadmium phosphate glasses were prepared by melt quench technique. These glasses contain a mole % composition of x% Li2O-(50-x)% CdO-50%P2O5. The quantity x varies from 0-40 mole%. The physical properties reported in this paper are mass density ρ, modulus of rigidity η, coefficient of linear expansion α, transition temperature Tg, Softening temperature Ts, Oxygen packing density, Molar v...
Bismuth (Bi(3+)) binds equal molar amounts of HypB from Helicobacter pylori at the conserved metal site with a dissociation constant of 0.94 (±0.25) × 10(-17) μM, and concomitantly induces the protein dimerization similarly to Ni(2+). Excess Bi(3+) causes HypB further oligomerization, leading to HypB GTPase dysfunction. The results extend our understanding on the inhibitory mechanism of bismuth...
Physicochemical and electrochemical properties of N,N,N-dimethylbutylammonium methanesulfonate, [DMBA][MS], ionic liquid (IL) have been determined, the potential application for recovery lead from lead-acid batteries is discussed. To optimise transport IL, dependences were measured conductivity, density viscosity with varying amounts excess acid water as a diluent in electrolyte mixture. Molar ...
An asymmetric moissanite anvil cell is used to study aqueous solutions of ammonium iodide at pressures up to 10 kbar. The index of refraction is measured using the rotating Fabry-Perot technique, with an accuracy of approximately 1%. The mass density and molar volume of the solutions are estimated using the measured index values, and the molar volume is used to predict the pressure dependence o...
We have developed a direct, asymmetric Michael reaction that can be performed in brine or seawater without addition of organic solvents. A bifunctional catalyst with long hydrophobic alkyl chains efficiently catalyzed Michael reactions and afforded the desired products in excellent yield with high enantiomeric excess, even when only an equal molar ratio of the donor to acceptor was used.
The reaction of trifluoroacetaldehyde N,O-acetal derivatives with 2 molar equivalents of alkyllithium reagents proceeded viabeta-elimination of fluoride followed by alkyl transfer from excess alkyllithium to the generated ketene N,O-acetal intermediate at the beta-carbon of fluorine groups.
We report a simple universal method to systematically improve the accuracy of hydration free energies calculated using an integral equation theory of molecular liquids, the 3D reference interaction site model. A strong linear correlation is observed between the difference of the experimental and (uncorrected) calculated hydration free energies and the calculated partial molar volume for a data ...
Figure 3. Comparison of BSA crosslinking efficiency by SDS-PAGE. Different crosslinkers were incubated with BSA at molar excess of crosslinker to protein (e.g. 20, 100 or 500-fold). Crosslinking efficiency is shown by decreased mobility by SDS-PAGE and varied by crosslinker type, solubility and concentration. Figure 1. Structures of non-cleavable and MS-cleavable crosslinkers used for protein –...
