PURPOSE Advanced Ewing sarcomas have poor prognosis. They are defined by early relapse (<24 months after diagnosis) and/or by metastasis to multiple bones or bone marrow (BM). We analyzed risk factors, toxicity and survival in advanced Ewing sarcoma patients treated with the MetaEICESS vs. EICESS92 protocols. DESIGN Of 44 patients, 18 patients were enrolled into two subsequent MetaEICESS prot...

Purpose: Inhibitors of PARP, an enzyme involved in base excision repair, have demonstrated single-agent activity against tumors deficient in homologous repair processes. Ewing sarcoma cells are also sensitive to PARP inhibitors, although the mechanism is not understood. Here, we evaluated the stereoselective PARP inhibitor, talazoparib (BMN 673), combined with temozolomide or topotecan. Experim...

Purpose: Ewing sarcoma is a pediatric bone tumor that absolutely relies on the transcriptional activity of the EWS/ETS family of fusion oncoproteins. While the most common fusion, EWS/FLI, utilizes lysinespecific demethylase 1 (LSD1) to repress critical tumor suppressors, small-molecule blockade of LSD1 has not yet been thoroughly explored as a therapeutic approach for Ewing sarcoma. We therefo...

Solid tumours in the inguinal scrotal area (inguinal, testicular and para-testicular) are infrequent in the clinic. After its observation, depending on factors such as age, time of evolution, metastatic disease and blood markers at diagnosis, clinicians oriented to one origin or other. However, this approach may lead to a wrong diagnosis and treatment approach. In this publication, we report an...

Sinonasal and pharyngeal mass lesion of Extraskeletal Ewing sarcomas (EEWSs) are extremely rare. Herein we present a case EEWSs ethmoid sinus extending into nasal spaces mimicking as angiofibroma clinically. Histopathological examination in conjunction with immunohistochemistry puzzled out the diagnostic dilemma.

Recent data suggest autonomic dysfunction in patients suffering dementia. This study evaluated autonomic modulation in dementia patients with and without autonomic involvement, employing ECG spectral analysis in the time-frequency domain (wavelet transform) in supine resting and head-up tilt (HUT) position. Thirty-six patients were prospectively evaluated at the Department of Neurology and Psyc...

Since Ewing sarcomas are highly aggressive tumors, early diagnosis is very important for the prognosis of these patients. The aim this case report to raise awareness among pediatricians and dentists about clinical, radiological histopathological features tumors. A 10-year-old child patient referred our clinic from ENT outpatient was found have a sore throat that had been persisting 2-3 months. ...

Ewing sarcoma is a transcription factor-mediated pediatric bone tumor caused by a chromosomal translocation of the EWSR1 gene and one of several genes in the ETS family of transcription factors, typically FLI1 or ERG. Full activity of the resulting oncogenic fusion protein occurs only after binding RNA helicase A (RHA), and novel biologically targeted small molecules designed to interfere with ...
