BACKGROUND The exact neurophysiological mechanisms of anesthetic-induced unconsciousness are not yet fully elucidated. The cortical information integration theory hypothesizes that loss of consciousness during general anesthesia is associated with breakdown of long-distance cortical connectivity across multiple brain regions. However, what is the effect of anesthetics on neural activities at a ...

in this paper we introduce the concept of entropy operator for continuous systems of finite topological entropy. it is shown that it generates the kolmogorov entropy as a special case. if $phi$ is invertible then the entropy operator is bounded with the topological entropy of $phi$ as its norm.

We have compared different spectral methods (the standard windowed Fourier transform, the multitaper method (MTM), and the maximum entropy method (MEM)) to determine the coherence between Bouguer gravity and topography and estimate the variations of the effective elastic thickness (Te) of the lithosphere. These methods differ significantly in spatial resolution (1000 to 2000 km) determined by t...

Recent data-driven efforts have utilized spectral decomposition techniques to uncover the geometric self-similarity of dominant motions in logarithmic layer, and thereby validate attached eddy model. In this paper, we evaluate predictive capability stochastically forced linearized Navier–Stokes equations capturing such structural features turbulent channel flow at $Re_\tau =2003$ . We use linea...

Abstract We consider a microscopic collision model, i.e., quantum system interacts with hierarchical environment consisting of an auxiliary and reservoir. show how the non-Markovian character is influenced by coupling strength system-auxiliary system-reservoir, coherence initial system-environment correlations. And we study non-Markovianity induced from perspective energy, further relationship ...

This paper examines the mutual relationship between the organizational use of Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) and organizational culture (OC). CMC supplements communication among members of an organization to maintain the culture, especially when those persons cannot communicate by other means. On the other hand, a strong OC allows a more effective use of CMC by providing members with som...

A theory of Bose-Einstein condensation of light in a dye-filled optical microcavity is presented. The theory is based on the hierarchical maximum entropy principle and allows one to investigate the fluctuating behavior of the photon gas in the microcavity for all numbers of photons, dye molecules, and excitations at all temperatures, including the whole critical region. The master equation desc...

We investigated cardio-respiratory coupling in patients with heart failure by quantification of bidirectional interactions between cardiac (RR intervals) and respiratory signals with complementary measures of time series analysis. Heart failure patients were divided into three groups of twenty, age and gender matched, subjects: with sinus rhythm (HF-Sin), with sinus rhythm and ventricular extra...

Bo Huang is with the Department of Geography and Resource Management, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong. Abstract In this paper, an unsupervised change-detection approach was proposed to detect new urban areas from multi-temporal SAR images. The novelty of the proposed approach is the joint use of coherence and intensity characteristics of SAR imagery. The approach involves ...
