The spectral behavior and the temperature dependence of the absorption coefficient of microporous silicon films are studied in the energy range of 1.2–3.8 eV, between 7 and 450 K. For photon energies above the direct band gap at 3.3 eV, the spectral behavior of the absorption coefficient is similar to that of crystalline silicon, and its absolute value is comparable to that estimated using Brug...

The multiplicities of p and a particles detected in coincidence with fragments emitted in fully relaxed collisions in the reactions of 18.5A MeV "Xe+ 'Ti have been measured for different exit channel mass asyrnrnetries. A kinematic source analysis of the spectra and angular distributions of the light particles has been used to separate the total multiplicities into prescission and postscission ...

Using a tight-binding model of charge transport in systems with static and dynamic disorder, we present a theoretical study of the positive charge transfer in molecular assemblies that involve a hole donor and an acceptor connected by fluorene and phenyl bridges. Two parameters that determine the rate of charge transfer within the proposed model are the charge transfer integral between neighbor...

Fluorescence lifetimes of Eu doped in CaF2 are measured at various temperatures between 4K and 450K. The lifetime increases with between 100K and 300K, in contrast to the usual lifetime-temperature dependence. At higher or lower temperatures the lifetime decreases with increasing temperature. The phenomenon is explained by simulation of the energy levels and lifetimes of low-lying 4f5d states i...

Magnetoelectric coupling in multiferroic heterostructures can produce large lateral modulations of magnetic anisotropy enabling the imprinting of ferroelectric domains into ferromagnetic films. Exchange and magnetostatic interactions within ferromagnetic films oppose the formation of such domains. Using micromagnetic simulations and a one-dimensional model, we demonstrate that competing energie...

We study inclusive heavy quark and exclusive heavy quark pair production in pp, pA and AA interactions. Intrinsic transverse momentum is introduced in pp interactions. Nuclear effects, limited to kT broadening and nuclear shadowing, are introduced in pA and AA interactions. The nuclear dependence is studied over a range of energies, both in fixed target and collider setups.

Understanding and quantifying the temperature dependence of population parameters, such as intrinsic growth rate and carrying capacity, is critical for predicting the ecological responses to environmental change. Many studies provide empirical estimates of such temperature dependencies, but a thorough investigation of the methods used to infer them has not been performed yet. We created artific...

Collisions involving 112Sn and 124Sn nuclei have been simulated with the improved quantum molecular dynamics transport model. The results of the calculations reproduce isospin diffusion data from two different observables and the ratios of neutron and proton spectra. By comparing these data to calculations performed over a range of symmetry energies at saturation density and different represent...

As experimental techniques in biophysics have progressed at the single molecule level, there has been considerable interest in understanding how external mechanical influences (such as load) affect chemical reactions. The majority of biophysical studies investigating load-dependent kinetics use an equation where the rate constant exponentially depends on force, which is sometimes called Bell's ...

The most basic assumption of the classical nucleation theory (CNT) is to treat nucleus/liquid surface energy, r, as a macroscopic property having a value equal to that of a planar interface, r1. Therefore, when the CNT is used to analyze experimental data, the size dependence of surface energy is often neglected. To date, there has been no reliable method to measure the surface energy of the nu...
