Our understanding of the meaning of the electrocardiogram is greatly furthered by careful comparison of cardiac hypertrophy and cardiac damage observed post mortem with electrocardiograms taken during the last weeks of life. An electrocardiographic-pathologic correlation of 672 cases is reported in which the roles of left ventricular hypertrophy, myocardial infarction, and other factors in the ...

Electrocardiograms from 5,129 examined persons, 2,449 men and 2,680 women, 16 years of age or older, were classified according to the Minnesota code of Blackburn and associates. The R wave amplitude criteria for possible left ventricular hypertrophy were fulfilled in 193 tracings from 135 men and 58 women. Age and sex matched controls were randomly selected from the remainder of the examined po...

Body surface electrocardiograms and electrograms recorded from the surfaces of the heart are the basis for diagnosis and treatment of cardiac electrophysiological disorders and arrhythmias. Given recent advances in understanding the molecular mechanisms of arrhythmia, it is important to relate these electrocardiographic waveforms to cellular electrophysiological processes. This modeling study e...

An evaluation of the electrocardiographic profile of 50 clinically healthy Quarter Horses, with ages ranging from six months to 28 years old, 34 females and 16 males, was performed. Heart rate has not decreased with age, and duration of the QRS complex increased with the growth of the animal. The amplitude of the S and T1 waves were higher in male subjects than in female Quarter Horses.

A NUMBER of reports on normal ranges of corrected orthogonal electrocardiographic measurements have appeared in the literature.'-12 They were derived, however, from limited numbers of subjects and the types of electrocardiographic and vectorcardiographic measurements varied largely from one study to another. The reported results are therefore not always strictly comparable. In spite of these li...

The spatial vectorcardiograms (sVCG) and electrocardiogramns were studied with respect to the gross and microscopic data in 59 instances of myocardial infarction. Besides the early abnormalities in the QRS sf-loop frequently associated with the electrocardiographic Q of infarction, there were recognizable alterations in the sVCG associated with the anatomic location of the infaretion: lateral w...

Numerous electrocardiographic studies have been made in rheumatic fever, diphtheria and other acute infectious diseases ( 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), but a search of the literature yields relatively little information on the changes in the heart depicted by the electrocardiogram in lobar pneumonia. Cohn and Jamieson (6) in a report on the action of digitalis in this disease discussed the tracings obtained ...

BACKGROUND Recent studies have suggested a relationship between periodontitis and cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study investigated the relationship between periodontitis and electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities, which are known predictors of CVD. METHODS We examined the periodontal status of 1,111 residents of Hisayama Town, Fukuoka, Japan. Nine hundred fifty-seven (957) subjects (37...

Since it was first described approximately 15 years ago, the Brugada Syndrome has spurred a significant quantity of interest in its underlying mechanism and physiology. The Brugada electrocardiographic pattern is characterized by right bundle branch block morphology and ST segment elevations in the right precordial leads with an absence of identifiable underlying structural heart disease. The s...

IN the first paper of this series' it was shown that the relationship between the electromotive forces of the heart and the voltages produced by them in a given lead are completely determined by the electric field set up in the heart when a unit current is introduced into the lead. This means that to analyze the relationship between the electromotive forces and the lead voltage it is only neces...
