It has been shown that CP violating electron-nucleon and nucleon-nucleon interactions can induce atomic electric dipole moments and are therefore constrained from experimental data. We show that using the experimental upper bounds on neutron and electron electric dipole moments, one can also obtain constraints, in some cases better ones, on these interactions. In addition stringent constraints ...
We note that in extensions of the Standard Model that allow for a varying fine structure constant, α, all matter species, apart from right-handed neutrinos, will gain an intrinsic electric dipole moment (EDM). In a large subset of varying-α theories, all such particle species will also gain an effective electric charge. This charge will in general not be quantised and can result in macroscopic ...
In this paper we present an analysis of the magnetic toroidal moment and its relation to the various structural modes in R3c-distorted perovskites with magnetic cations on either the perovskite A or B site. We evaluate the toroidal moment in the limit of localized magnetic moments and show that the full magnetic symmetry can be taken into account by considering small induced magnetic moments on...

Using electroweak data and an effective Lagrangian approach we obtain stringent bounds on the tau anomalous magnetic moment, −0.004 ≤ aτ ≤ 0.006, and on its electric dipole moment, |dτ | ≤ 1.1× 10 e cm. This significantly improves our previous bounds. With the same method, we obtain limits on the dipole moments of other fermions. ∗Laboratoire associé au C.N.R.S. — URA D0063.
The electric dipole moment of atomic 199Hg induced by the nuclear Schiff moment and the tensor-pseudotensor electron-nucleus interactions are calculated. For this, we develop and employ a novel method based on the relativistic coupled-cluster theory. The results of our theoretical calculations, combined with the latest experimental result of the 199Hg electric dipole moment, provide new bounds ...
We derive the first two moment sum rules of the conduction electron retarded self-energy for both the Falicov–Kimball model and the Hubbard model coupled to an external spatially uniform and time-dependent electric field this derivation also extends the known nonequilibrium moment sum rules for the Green functions to the third moment . These sum rules are used to further test the accuracy of no...
When the electromagnetic field couples to the electric dipole moment of the Continuation of lecture 13 11/5/09 region under consideration, we see that the absorption spectrum, except for simple frequency-dependent factors, is proportional to the Fourier transform of the correlation function of the dipole moment. Using the methods we have been discussing, that correlation function can be written as
Here we demonstrate electric-field induced magnetic anisotropy in a multiferroic composite containing nickel nanocrystals strain coupled to a piezoelectric substrate. This system can be switched between a superparamagnetic state and a single-domain ferromagnetic state at room temperature. The nanocrystals show a shift in the blocking temperature of 40 K upon electric poling. We believe this is ...
Fusion of neuraminidase or trypsin pretreated human erythrocytes and untreated cells was performed. The obtained doublets had a permanent dipole moment which disappeared as a function of time. Since the dipole moment disappearance is due to protein interdiffusion the lateral diffusion constant may be determined. This was performed by fixing fused cells in different time intervals following the ...
