Background and purpose - Previous reports on elbow injuries with concomitant comminute radial head fracture are difficult to interpret, since they include an array of different soft-tissue and bony injuries around the elbow. We focused on Mason-IV fracture dislocations of the elbow and retrospectively reviewed 2 treatment options: radial head resection or replacement with a radial head arthropl...

Total elbow arthroplasty is used for the treatment of the painful, destroyed elbow joint. With the increase in elbow replacement surgery in recent years, the number of revision surgeries will also increase. At our center, 236 primary Souter-Strathclyde total elbow prostheses have been placed. Twenty-four of these have been revised and were followed up for a mean of 74 months (range, 12-165 mont...

THE JOURNAL OF BONE AND JOINT SURGERY after avulsion of the common flexor origin from the epicondyle and severe soft-tissue disruption has been described (Mains and Freeark 1975; Wilmshurst, Millner and Batchelor 1989). In a fracture, the nerve retains its relationship to the epicondylar and ulnar heads of pronator teres and passes back through the fracture site. It may produce a gap or groove ...

The average follow-up was seven and a half years. There were thirty-two men and twenty-six women, and, as in other reported series, the highest incidence was between thirty...

A rare case of an irreducible elbow dislocation is described. We discuss the causes of irreducibility and the treatment options. Intraoperative assessment of joint stability, repair of the lateral collateral ligament and appropriate postoperative management led to an excellent 5-year outcome, obviating the need for an external fixator or a radial head replacement.

Congenital deficiency of part of distal ulna affecting the distal radio-ulnar joint is a rare disorder. It is even rarer to find the association of proximal radio-ulnar joint dislocation along with distal ulnar deficiency. This type of congenital forearm anomaly is difficult to treat. Conversion to a single bone forearm in the expense of pronation-supination movement is a viable option. By doin...

This study was designed to evaluate the results of treatment of joint contractures (6 patients) and dislocations (2 cases) with an Ilizarov device. Six patients with restricting joint contractures were successfully treated and after gradual scar expansion they achieved a significant improvement in their range of motion. One patient with elbow instability after closed dislocation achieved 5 degr...
