The Euler–Poisson equations for a cold, collisionless plasma support ion-acoustic solitary waves. We prove that these waves are spectrally stable at low amplitude in one space-dimension and present numerical evidence that they destabilize at finite amplitude before they develop singularities. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. The work investigates the coupling between ion-acoustic waves and neutrino flavor oscillations in a nonrelativistic electron-ion plasma under the influence of a mixed neutrino beam. Neutrino oscillations are mediated by the flavor polarization vector dynamics in a material medium. The linear dispersion relation around homogeneous static equilibria is developed. When resonant with the ion-acoust...

the use of acoustic waves in researches related to sea water is of most importance among scientistsrecently. since these waves are the only waves, transmitted in water with lowest attenuation and high speed, they canbe used in many scientific fields. the main goal of this research is to better understand the physics and mechanismsof sound-seabed interaction, including acoustic penetration, prop...

The influence of strong correlations on low frequency collective modes in a dusty plasma is investigated. The dust dynamics is modeled by the generalized hydrodynamics description. For the well known dust acoustic mode, strong correlations lead to new dispersive corrections, an overall reduction of the frequency and phase velocity and the existence of parameter regions where ]v/]k,0. A novel re...

A second order implicit f Lorentz ion hybrid model with sub-cycling and orbit averaging has been developed to study low-frequency, quasi-neutral plasmas. Models using the full Lorentz force equations of motion for ions may be useful for verifying gyrokinetic ion simulation models in applications where higher order terms may be important. In the presence of a strong external magnetic field, prev...

The excitation and propagation of finite-amplitude low-frequency solitary waves are investigated in an argon plasma impregnated with kaolin dust particles. A nonlinear longitudinal dust acoustic solitary wave is excited by pulse modulating the discharge voltage with a negative potential. It is found that the velocity of the solitary wave increases and the width decreases with the increase of th...

We discuss the parametric instabilities of large-amplitude parallel propagating Alfvén waves using the 2-D PIC simulation code. First, we confirmed the results in the past study [Sakai et al., 2005] that the electrons are heated due to the modified two stream instability and that the ions are heated by the parallel propagating ion acoustic waves. However, although the past study argued that suc...

Slow magneto-acoustic waves are often observed in polar plumes and active region fan loops. The observed periodicities of these waves are in the range of 1- 40 minutes. Mainly, the ratio of damping time to the oscillation period is less than 2 (equal to the ratio damping length to the wave length), which corresponds to the strong damping regime. In general, slow magneto-acoustic waves can be da...

The linear and nonlinear kinetic properties of electrostatic oblique waves below the lower hybrid frequency are investigated. For propagation angles # = k k =k ? < q m e =m i the waves are damped by either parallel electron Landau or ion cyclotron damping. For T i =T e 1 the waves are only weakly damped and can propagate. These waves are called slow ion cyclotron (SIC) and slow ion acoustic (SI...
