this research uses computational modeling to explore another method to increase diesel engine performance while maintaining low pollutant emission levels. previous studies have shown that injection-rate profiles and injector configurations play important roles on the performance and emissions of particulate and nox in di diesel engines. since the most important engine design parameters, includi...

An improved topology of a low-speed permanent magnet vernier machine called a dual-stator interior permanent magnet vernier machine (DS-IPMVM) is introduced to significantly increase torque density and power factor. Dual-stator is usually adopted in machine design for more torque and the abundant space utilization. Interior spoke-type magnet array in the rotor is designed for magnet flux focusi...

This paper describes a system for transferring power across a transdermal needle into a smart refill port for recharging implantable drug delivery systems. The device uses a modified 26 gauge (0.46 mm outer diameter) Huber needle with multiple conductive elements designed to couple with mechanical springs in the septum of the refill port of a drug delivery device to form an electrical connectio...

Effective teleoperation of the small-scale and highly-integrated robots for single-port surgery (SPS) imposes unique control human-robot interaction challenges. Traditional isometric schemes mainly focus on end-to-end trajectory mapping, which is problematic when applied to SPS robotic control, especially dual-arm coordinated operation. Inspired by human arm configuration in boxing maneuvers, a...

This paper presents various improvements that were applied to OCamlJit2, a Just-In-Time compiler for the OCaml byte-code virtual machine. OCamlJit2 currently runs on various Unix-like systems with x86 or x86-64 processors. The improvements, including the new x86 port, are described in detail, and performance measures are given, including a direct comparison of OCamlJit2 to OCamlJit.

Many machine translation (MT) evaluation metrics have been shown to correlate better with human judgment than BLEU. In principle, tuning on these metrics should yield better systems than tuning on BLEU. However, due to issues such as speed, requirements for linguistic resources, and optimization difficulty, they have not been widely adopted for tuning. This paper presents PORT 1 , a new MT eval...

This paper describes our experience implementing RAMP-White, an FPGA-based cache coherent shared memory machine designed to run a single image OS. The system is architected to easily handle different coherency protocols, memory hierarchies and processor ISAs and implementations. We describe our efforts to build the generic shared memory hardware support and to port Linux and Plan9 onto the system.

The Second Law of thermodynamics implies that no thermodynamic system with a single heat source at constant temperature can convert into mechanical work in recurrent manner. First, we note this is equivalent to cyclo-passivity the port system, while thermal kept constant. This leads question, which general systems two power ports have similar behavior: when cyclo-passive one its ports, output v...
