ONLINEAR fiber loop mirrors such as nonlinear optical N loop mirrors (NOLM) [1]-[3] and nonlinear amplifying loop mirrors (NALM) [3], [4] have been shown to have a great potential for fast optical switching for signal processing and all-optical communications [5], [6]. Recently, they have been used as a fast saturable absorber to passively mode lock fiber lasers. Generation and reshaping of pic...
In the paper, a 2 µm high energy fs fiber laser is presented based on Tm doped fiber at a low repetition rate. The seed laser was designed to generate pulse train at 2 µm at a pulse repetition rate of 2.5 MHz. The low repetition rate seed oscillator eliminated extra devices such as AO pulse picker. Two-stage fiber amplifier was used to boost pulse energy to 0.65 µJ with chirped pulse amplificat...
We have demonstrated suppression and elimination of self-pulsing in a watt-level, dual-clad, ytterbium-doped fiber laser. The addition of a long section of passive fiber in the laser cavity makes the gain recovery faster than the self-pulsation dynamics, allowing only stable cw lasing. This scheme provides a simple and practical method for eliminating self-pulsations in fiber lasers at all pump...
We have demonstrated simultaneous lasing and self-frequency doubling of a neodymium and germanium doped silica fiber laser at 1.06 pm. The doubling action is provided by a self-organized phase matching grating in the fiber. The laser was modelocked using a linear external cavity which produced 600 ps pulses at 1.06 pm.
Pulse breaking recovery is numerically demonstrated in dispersion-managed fiber lasers designed for generating high peak power ultrashort optical pulses. It is shown that due to the cavity boundary condition, local pulse breaking can be absorbed by the pulse propagation in erbium-doped fiber with normal dispersion. Consequently, high peak power transform-limited pulses beyond the gain-bandwidth...
In this work, efficient visible Ho3+-doped fluorozirconate glass (Ho:ZBLAN) all-fiber lasers operating in continuous-wave (CW) and Q-switching regimes are experimentally demonstrated. The combination of a direct blue pump, a highly-doped Ho:ZBLAN fiber and the fiber end-facet mirrors contributes to a simple all-fiber configuration. A tunable laser emission in the green spectral range of 543-550...
This paper reports on theoretically investigated transmission performance depending on the chirping and extinction ratio for a 1550 nm, 10Gb/s transmissions system with the standard single mode fiber. The transmission performance can be improved by adjusting chirp and extinction ratio in a Ti:LiNbO3 modulator-based transmitter and erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA)-PIN receiver configuration.
Beating noise in narrow-linewidth erbium-doped fiber ring lasers puts severe limitations on applications of the lasers. We demonstrate the suppression of beating noise in fiber ring lasers by using a semiconductor optical amplifier in the laser cavity, which acts as a high-pass filter. Two different ring structures are presented as examples to demonstrate this beating noise suppression.
We have fabricated an ytterbium doped all-glass double-clad large mode area holey fiber. A highly efficient cladding pumped single transverse mode holey fiber laser has been demonstrated, allowing continuous-wave output powers in excess of 1W with efficiencies of more than 80%. Furthermore both Q-switched and mode-locked operation of the laser have been demonstrated.
We report experimental and numerical results on the dynamics of gain-guided solitons in a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser made of purely normal dispersion fibers. We show that formation of the soliton in the laser is a result of mutual interaction and balance among the cavity transmission, fiber Kerr nonlinearity, gain saturation, and filtering over one cavity round trip.
