In this paper the mode-locking of an erbium-doped fiber ring laser with frequency shifted feedback is described. We use the configuration with an acousto-optical modulator inserted in the laser cavity that produces 1.7 ps pulses with a 40 MHz repetition frequency. The corresponding optical frequency comb has a bandwidth of more than 10 nm, centered at 1558 nm. The laser operates with external i...

The use of lasers in skin diseases is quite common. In contrast to other laser types, medical literature about 980 nm ultrapulsed diode laser is sparse in dermatology. Herein, we report the use of ultrapulsed diode 980 nm laser in 300 patients with vascular lesions, cysts and pseudocysts, infectious disease, and malignant tumors. This laser is a versatile tool with excellent safety and efficacy...

We have shown that external cavity stabilization can be a straightforward and powerful technique for converting diode lasers of poor spectral quality into useful tools for high precision laser spectroscopy. The method requires an anti-reflection coating on one facet of the diode laser but, contrary to popular belief, this is not difficult and does not require any specialized equipment. We descr...

We describe a novel layout for the measurement of the extracorporeal blood flow, performed by means of a laser diode placed directly in front of the blood vessel, without the need for any optical element. As the readout, we use the self-mixing interference in the laser diode due to light scattered by the red cells, whose Doppler shifted components comes from the intrinsic divergence of the lase...

We describe transient spectroscopic measurements with a current-switched semiconductor diode laser. Following a fast pulse modulation in the injection current of the diode laser, the diode laser frequency is switched by a few hundred MHz and, then, is scanned over 10 GHz range in a short-time evolution (<0.5 μs). Free-induction decay based on the frequency switching and transient absorption spe...

BACKGROUND Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a chronic pain condition with indefinite cure, predominantly affecting post-menopausal women. The aim of this study was to systematically review the efficacy of low level laser therapy in the treatment of burning mouth syndrome (BMS). METHODS PubMed, Embase and Scopus were searched from date of inception till and including October 2016 using various ...

BACKGROUND Using the concept of selective photothermolysis, a variety of laser systems have been developed to remove unwanted hair. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the relative efficacy, tolerability, and subject satisfaction of three different laser systems used individually and in rotation for axillary hair removal. METHODS Twenty female patients (17 with dark-colored hair, 3 with red or light-colo...

We have demonstrated an 18.9 nm Ni-like molybdenum soft x-ray laser, pumped by a compact all-diode-pumped Yb:YAG laser. The solid-state pump laser produces 8.5 ps pulses with up to 1 J energy at 10 Hz repetition rate. This diode-pumped laser has the potential to greatly increase the repetition rate and the average power of soft x-ray lasers on a significantly smaller footprint.

We propose a technique to simultaneously stabilize relative wavelengths among multiple diode lasers by using multiplexed photorefractive gratings. Each grating is designed to be Bragg matched for the counter-propagating reflection at a specific diode laser wavelength. Experimental results from stabilization of two diode laser wavelengths by using two photorefractive gratings exhibit excellent s...

Cervical dentine hypersensitivity is the most frequent complaint among reported odontalgias. Thus, this study evaluated the effectiveness of two types of lasers (660 nm wavelength red, and 830 nm wavelength infrared) as dentine desensitizers, as well as both the immediate and late therapeutic effects in individuals 25 to 45 years of age. A total of 40 teeth with cervical exposure were treated i...
