Static stiffness is an important indicator of the performance of a rolling guide, having direct influence on the stiffness and precision of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools. After preloading the rolling guide, an outward elastic deformation is generated at the carriage skirt, which leads to a decrease in the static stiffness of the rolling guide. Therefore, there would be rel...

Many coastal cities have undertaken reclamation projects to satisfy the land demands of rapid urbanization. However, the foundations of reclaimed land are susceptible to settlement and can have undesirable environmental impacts that could adversely affect these dense, populated areas. In the case of international airports built on reclaimed areas especially, regional-scale deformation must be m...

We propose VoxMorph, a new interactive freeform deformation tool for high resolution voxel grids. Our system exploits cages for high-level deformation control. We tackle the scalability issue by introducing a new 3-scale deformation algorithm composed of a high quality as-rigid-as possible deformation at coarse scale, a quasi-conformal space deformation at mid-scale and a new deformation-adapti...

This paper presents a new methodology for the deformation of soft objects by drawing an analogy between cellular neural network (CNN) and elastic deformation. The potential energy stored in an elastic body as a result of a deformation caused by an external force is propagated among mass points by nonlinear CNN activities. The novelty of the methodology is that soft object deformation is carried...

Most natural deformation involves simultaneous discrete deformation (e.g. faults) and distributed deformation (e.g. penetrative strain). In order to properly understand the bulk kinematics of a given deformation, the discrete and distributed components must be evaluated simultaneously. The displacement diagram method has previously been utilized to quantify strain accommodated by faults or othe...

The Deformation T-Cup (DT-Cup) is a modified 6-8 multi-anvil apparatus capable of controlled strain-rate deformation experiments at pressures greater than 18 GPa. Controlled strain-rate deformation was enabled by replacing two of the eight cubic "second-stage" anvils with hexagonal cross section deformation anvils and modifying the "first-stage" wedges. However, with these modifications approxi...

The effect of amount of deformation on the martensitic transformation and shape memory effect in a Fe-16Mn-5Si-9Cr-4Ni alloy is studied. It is found that both 6and a'martensite are induced by deformation. With increasing amount of deformation, y+~-nx' transformation is greatly enhanced. the highest shape memory strain 3 3% is reached when the amount of deformation is about 5%.

[1] Deformation of sedimentary rocks is widespread within Valles Marineris, characterized by both plastic and brittle deformation identified in Candor, Melas, and Ius Chasmata. We identified four deformation styles using HiRISE and CTX images: kilometer‐scale convolute folds, detached slabs, folded strata, and pull‐apart structures. Convolute folds are detached rounded slabs of material with al...

In this paper we develop the basic infinitesimal deformation theory of abelian categories. This theory yields a natural generalization of the wellknown deformation theory of algebras developed by Gerstenhaber. As part of our deformation theory we define a notion of flatness for abelian categories. We show that various basic properties are preserved under flat deformations and we construct sever...

To produce carbonate apatite (CAP) ceramics with the desired complex shapes using superplastic deformation, deformation behavior of CAP ceramics under constant loading as well as physical properties after deformation were evaluated. Sintered CAP ceramics were plastically deformed in an electric furnace attached to a universal hydraulic testing machine under a constant load. CAP ceramics subject...
