Heterogeneous formation shape control with interagent bearing and distance constraints involves the design of a distributed control law that ensures the formation moves such that these interagent constraints are achieved and maintained. This paper looks at the design of a distributed control scheme to solve different formation shape control problems in an ambient two-dimensional space with bear...

A decentralized architecture is proposed for autonomous establishment and maintenance of satellite formations. Such an architecture does not require a central supervisor, as the spacecraft can cooperatively track planned maneuvers and trajectories in the face of disturbances and uncertainties, while processing only local measurement information. If the planned maneuvers and trajectories are the...

The minimax linear quadratic problem, where ‘max’ is taken over a finite set of indices (models) and ‘min’ is taken over the set of admissible controls, is considered. The solution is obtained by the robust optimal control application. The control turns out to be a linear combination of the controls optimal for each individual model. This paper develops a numerical method for the optimal weight...

This paper describes a model predictive control (MPC) algorithm for the solution of a state-feedback robust control problem for discrete-time nonlinear systems. The control law is obtained through the solution of a finite-horizon dynamic game and guarantees robust stability in the face of a class of bounded disturbances and/or parameter uncertainties. A simulation example is reported to show th...

This paper addresses the distributed control by input–output linearization of a nonlinear diffusion equation that describes a particular but important class of distributed parameter systems. Both manipulated and controlled variables are assumed to be distributed in space. The control law is designed using the concept of characteristic index from geometric control by using directly the PDE model...

In this paper, we address the problem of designing a control law based on sensor measurements that provides global asymptotic stabilization to a reference trajectory defined on the SE(3)× R. The proposed control law is a function of the angular velocity, of vector measurements characterizing the position of some given landmarks and of their rate of change. We provide sufficient conditions for t...

The purpose of the study was to collect data and evaluate an age-based bulb replacement policy for projectors used in Technology-enhanced classrooms in a university campus. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) had instituted a policy to replace bulbs in these projectors after either failure or 1800 h of operation without failure. However, databases maintained by OIT included the time to b...

In this paper, the optimal drug injection problem arising in cancer treatment by cell-cycle-specific chemotherapy is investigated. The optimal control problem is state constrained in which the stage cost reflects the concern of maximal drug injection, while the state constraint imposes a lower bound on the total number of cells in the bone marrow. It is shown that this problem can be approximat...

A new fuzzy maximum power point tracker (MPPT) for photovoltaic systems is proposed. Fuzzy controller input parameters dI dP , ) dI dP ( D and variation of duty cycle ( DC D ) are used to generate the optimal MPPT converter duty cycle, such that solar panel maximum power is generated under different operating conditions. A photovoltaic system including a solar panel, a fuzzy MPP tracker and...

In this paper we address two important issues about minimax regression designs: existence and symmetry. These designs are robust against possible misspecification of the regression response. Existence is proved for A-optimal, D-optimal and Q-optimal minimax designs. Symmetry is proved for all D-optimal minimax designs and for some special cases of A-optimal and Q-optimal minimax designs.
