Incidental pancreatic cysts are being increasingly recognized recently with incremented concern about health and frequent health check-up. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has emerged as the principal modality for imaging pancreas for various pancreatic diseases including pancreatic cyst. But imaging alone cannot accurately identify the exact nature of the pancreatic cyst. EUS-guided fine needle asp...
OBJECTIVE Cystic ameloblastoma, keratocystic odontogenic tumor, dentigerous cyst, and radicular cyst are the most commonly encountered cystic odontogenic lesions. The aim of this study was to investigate the expressions of survivin, E-cadherin, CD138, and CD38 in these lesions and their potential diagnostic usage. MATERIAL AND METHOD A total of 20 cases, consisting 5 radicular cysts, 5 dentig...
BACKGROUND Cystic neoplasms of the pancreas contribute to 10-20% of pancreatic tumours. Malignant cystic tumours of the pancreas behave similar to adenocarcinomas and thus warrant aggressive management. However, certain benign cystic neoplasms do not require operative intervention. It is, therefore, important to differentiate benign lesions from malignant lesions and from those with malignant p...
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this retrospective study is to find the differentiating characteristics of cystic and cystic-appearing lesions that involve the impacted mandibular third molar by analyzing panoramic radiographs and computed tomography images, and to aid the preoperative diagnosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty-one patients who had a mandibular cystic or cystic-appearing lesion that i...
BACKGROUND von Hippel-Lindau disease is a dominantly inherited multi-system syndrome with neoplastic hallmarks. Pancreatic lesions associated with von Hippel-Lindau include serous cystic neoplasms, simple cysts, and neuroendocrine tumors. The combination of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors and serous cystic neoplasms is relatively rare, and the surgical treatment of these lesions must consider ...
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE It is known that intracranial mass lesions are relatively isotropic on diffusion-weighted imaging. The purpose of this study is to report an unusually high fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (D(av)) in the cavity of the brain abscess compared with other cystic lesions. METHODS We performed diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in 12 patients with cystic intracrani...
Cystic lesions of the pancreas are relatively uncommon. We describe the case of a young man with a complex cystic mass located within the head of the pancreas. The patient underwent exploration with resection of the mass. Pathology revealed a ciliated epithelial cyst, a rare cystic lesion of the pancreas.
The tongue is a rare site of localization of cystic echinococcosis. We report a 3-year-old patient with cystic echinococcosis of the tongue demonstrated by histopathology. The cyst of the tongue was surgically removed. The tongue lesion led us to find additional liver and lung cystic lesions that were successfully treated with albendazole therapy.
Incidentally discovered pancreatic lesions that are asymptomatic have become much more common in recent years. It is important to characterize these lesions and to determine which patients can be safely observed and which should undergo an operation, as a substantial proportion of them might be malignant or premalignant. This review focus on the diagnostic approach and management of the differe...
Aim: Abdominal Ultrasonography (US) and Computed Tomography (CT) examinations are imaging methods frequently used in Radiology Clinics. During these examinations, cystic lesions detected the abdomen. It is an important problem to identify characterize clinical significance of cysts. Methods: The findings 145 patients who underwent abdominal US CT units Istanbul Training Research Hospital Clinic ...
