Viscoelastic characteristics of many materials falling under the category of soft glassy substances, including biological tissue, often exhibit a mechanical complex modulus Y(ω) well described by a fractional derivative model: Y(ω) = E(iω/ϕ)k, where E = a generalized viscoelastic stiffness; i = (-1)1/2; ω = angular frequency; ϕ = scaling factor; and k = an exponent valued between 0 and 1. The t...
Chloroethylnitrosoureas (CENUs), which are bifunctional alkylating agents widely used in the clinical treatment of cancer, exert anticancer activity by inducing crosslink within a guanine-cytosine DNA base pair. However, the formation of dG-dC crosslinks can be prevented by O6-alkylguanine-DNA alkyltransferase (AGT), ultimately leading to drug resistance. Therefore, the level of AGT expression ...
Crosslinking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) is becoming an increasingly popular technique for modeling protein monomers and complexes. The distance restraints garnered from these experiments can be used alone or as part of an integrative modeling approach, incorporating data from many sources. However, modeling practices are varied and the difference in their usefulness is not clear. Here, we develo...
Thermoplastic polyolefins (TPOs) crosslinked by dynamic covalent bonds (xTPOs) have the potential to be most utilized class of polymer in world, with applications ranging from household and automotive biomedical devices additive manufacturing. xTPO combines benefits thermoplastics thermosets a “single material” potentially avoids their shortcomings. Here, we describe new two-stage reaction extr...
High Internal Phase Emulsion hydrogels are prepared from waterborne poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) nanogel dispersions which are non-covalently crosslinked through 2-ureido-4[1H] pyrimidinone (UPy) quadruple hydrogen bond groups. The reversible UPy crosslinks allow for the HIPE-hydrogels to be molded into objects which are thermo-responsive in nature.
