Sensitive radio observations of the 1997 September 24 EIT wave show its velocity to be 830 km s−1. The wave first appears a short distance from the flare site, and its trajectory projects back to the flare site at the peak of the impulsive phase. The radio spectrum appears to be consistent with optically thin coronal emission rather than chromospheric emission. The observed radio brightness tem...

In the previous paper, a novel fine particle removal system composed of a corona-discharge neutralizer, a pulse-jet air unit and an image processing system has been developed and applied to the removal of fine particles from film surface. We have calculated the van der Waals and electrostatic forces between particle and film and then reported that the electrostatic force influenced the adhesion...

The possible relationship between human exposure to electromagnetic environment in the vicinity to high and extra high voltage (EHV) power transmission lines and their adverse health effects has become a subject to considerable public interest and concern. The preparation of this review have been carried out for the purpose of quantitative assessment of biological interaction and to evaluate th...

In this paper we study the problem of when the corona algebra of a non-unital C∗-algebra is purely infinite. A complete answer is obtained for stabilisations of simple and unital algebras that have enough comparison of positive elements. Our result relates the pure infiniteness condition (from its strongest to weakest forms) to the geometry of the tracial simplex of the algebra, and to the beha...

Put your coat on: It is well recognized that the surfaces of nanomaterials in biological media are covered by various biomolecules (e.g., proteins). A) The protein corona creates a shell over different nanomaterials, regardless of their physicochemical properties (e.g., composition and shape), resulting in reduced levels of amyloid beta fibril formation. B) Pristine nanomaterials might have acc...

One of the mechanisms proposed for heating the corona above solar active regions is the damping of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves. Continuing on previous work, we provide observational evidence for the existence of high-frequency MHD waves in coronal loops observed during the August 1999 total solar eclipse. A wavelet analysis is used to identify twenty 4×4 arcsec2 areas showing intensity osci...

A simple, yet powerful, algorithm for computed tomography of the solar corona is demonstrated using synthetic EUV data. A minimum of three perspectives are required. These may be obtained from STEREO/EUVI plus an instrument near Earth, e.g. TRACE or SOHO/EIT. Subject headings: methods: data analysis — Sun: corona — techniques: image processing

The conductor corona noise of four local 400 kV AC transmission lines is measured and compared to predictions. The prediction software developed is based on the EPRI semi-analytical approach using excitation functions and the theory of natural modes. The nature and accuracy of the prediction software is discussed along with relevant corona noise metrology issues encountered.

We develop a theoretical model that explains the formation of hot coronae around strongly magnetized neutron stars — magnetars. The starquakes of a magnetar shear its external magnetic field, which becomes non-potential and is threaded by an electric current. Once twisted, the magnetosphere cannot untwist immediately because of its self-induction. The self-induction electric field lifts particl...
