This chapter presents a case-study of how the abstractions and infrastructure discussed in Part III and Part IV of this dissertation may be applied to source code analysis and interactive code generation. The motivation for the case study prototype, an interactive unit test generator, is that current unit testing methodologies often result in poor test coverage due to rather ad-hoc approaches.
This paper presents a case study of the status of the community based rehabilitation programme in Mongolia. The case study is based on participatory dialogue conducted in the summer of 2000 with key personnel associated with the programme. The country has tried to implement a different model for the implementation of a CBR programme and must be one of the rare examples where such a huge geograp...
Testing criterion is a fundamental topic of software testing. A criterion is important to evaluate and drive a testing method. Code coverage is widely used in software testing, due to its simple implementation and effectiveness. Dynamic web techniques have been used to improve the usability and user experience of applications. However, it brings some new challenges for testing. Dynamic web appl...
Unit tests of object-oriented code exercise particular sequences of method calls. A key problem when automatically generating unit tests that achieve high structural code coverage is the selection of relevant method-call sequences, since the number of potentially relevant sequences explodes with the number of methods. To address this issue, we propose a novel approach, called DyGen, that genera...
Background: Several studies report that test driven development (TDD) has effects on the software product e.g. code quality and developers’ productivity. In recent literature reviews, the impact of TDD on source code quality is seen as a more focused area in empirical research compared to unit testing. However, the quality of production code is tightly coupled with the quality of test code. Obj...
Coverage analysis measures how much of the target code is run during a test and is a useful mechanism for evaluating the effectiveness of a system test or benchmark. In order to improve the quality of the Linux® kernel, we are utilizing GCOV, a test coverage program which is part of GNU CC, to show how much of the kernel code is being exercised by test suites such as the Linux Test Project. Thi...
