In this paper the c = 1 matrix model deformed by a 1/x piece is discussed. Tachyon correlation functions are calculated up to genus two using methods similar to those for the undeformed case. The possible connection with the two dimensional black hole is also considered. In particular, restrictions on naked singularities imposed by the matrix model are found. CERN-TH.6916/93 June 1993
We investigate the occurrence and nature of naked singularities in the Szekeres space-times. These space-times represent irrotational dust. They do not have any Killing vectors and they are generalisations of the Tolman-Bondi-Lemâıtre space-times. It is shown that in these space-times there exist naked singularities that satisfy both the limiting focusing condition and the strong limiting focus...
In multi-agent systems, norms are usually considered rules that can be violated by agents. The reasons for norm violation are usually bounded to agents utility evaluation gain versus possible fee but with our proposal we depict a scenario in which norms are open or vague. Agent’s can interpret norms in different ways, according to their knowledge but also according with their own interpretation...
Most automated graphics generation systems employ either a constructive or a parametric graphics synthesis approach. Constructive graphics synthesis is a deductive approach that builds visual presentations from scratch by gluing together the most basic visual variables. Conversely, parametric graphics synthesis defines a set of parametrized visual models and interprets the information to be pre...
Personalization research for the Cultural Heritage domain has mostly focused on supporting the visitors by automatically creating the narratives and the visit experience. The meSch project shifts the focus of research from visitors to curators and re-designs the personalization process in a context of tangible interaction, to strengthen the role of human-supervised steps in the definition of th...
We present a multi-layered framework for the visual presentation of information that results from the fusion of multimedia databases. The visual presentation allows for the dynamic interaction among the views that form that presentation. By manipulating elements in a view, the other views may change dynamically, thus allowing for interactively querying and browsing related database objects. Thi...
Clathrin-mediated endocytosis in mammalian cells is critical for a variety of cellular processes including nutrient uptake and cell surface receptor down-regulation. Despite the findings that numerous endocytic accessory proteins directly or indirectly regulate actin dynamics and that actin assembly is spatially and temporally coordinated with endocytosis, direct functional evidence for a role ...
How are SNARE proteins included into transport vesicles? One way is through the interaction with ArfGAP proteins. A recent study reports that the ArfGAP Hrb can wrap around the SNARE VAMP7, causing its endocytosis by clathrin-coated vesicles.
Clathrin-coated vesicles transport proteins and membranes between intracellular compartments. Adaptor molecules determine vesicle specificity; recently, a third type of adaptor protein, AP3, has been identified and implicated in the biogenesis of endosomal and lysosome-related organelles.
Clathrin-mediated endocytosis is a central and well-studied trafficking process in eukaryotic cells. How this process is initiated is likely to be a critical point in regulating endocytic activity spatially and temporally, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. During the early stages of endocytosis three components-adaptor and accessory proteins, cargo, and lipids-come together a...
