The systematic evaluation of different transthoracic echocardiographic (TTE) methods to determine cardiac output (CO) and the effect of changes in intravascular volume on echocardiographically determined indexes of cardiovascular structure in the rat has not been documented. With the use of 11 Wistar rats, simultaneous echocardiographic and thermodilution measurements of CO were compared at bas...

The thermally induced volume phase transition process of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid) (PNIPAM-co-AA) hydrogel is studied using FT-IR spectroscopy in combination with the perturbation correlation moving window (PCMW) technique and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2Dcos) analysis. According to PCMW spectra analysis, an elevation of volume phase transition temperature (VPTT...

In their paper "Volumetric capnography in patients with acute lung injury: effects of positive end-expiratory pressure", BLANCH et al. [1] use a "new" term: "alveolar ejection volume" (VAE). This is intended as an index of " ... uneven ventilation/ perfusion of heterogeneous alveoli which may be useful to monitor in patients with ARDS [acute respiratory distress syndrome] receiving mechanical v...

Changes in Fingure-Pulse Volume (FPV) during CO(2) inhalation were studied in patients diagnosed as having Anxiety disorder with history of panic attacks. Waxing and Waning of the FPV was observed in all the cases after CO(2) inhalation, and this pattern was significantly intensified during panic attacks during the study. The significance and the mechanism underlying the same is discussed.

Distributed sensing of gas-phase chemicals is a promising application for mesoporous materials when combined with highly sensitive miniaturized gas sensors. We present a direct application of a mesoporous silica thin film on a highly sensitive miniaturized resonant chemical sensor with a mass sensitivity at the zeptogram scale for relative humidity and CO(2) detection. Using mesoporous silica t...

With the development of information technology, E-business becomes the core competition of small and medium enterprises in recent years. In this paper, we make an empirical test to analyze how the application of E-business will effect on the business performance. The result shows that the E-business application index increased 1 percentage can drive sales volume increased by 0.22 percentages, s...

Leksell Gamma Knife® IconTM with integrated Cone Beam CT (CBCT) system provides increased workflow flexibility with e.g. planning on frameless images and subsequent frameless dose delivery. The stereotactic reference is given by the CBCT images taken prior to treatment. Co-registration of the planning image volume with the CBCT volume gives the transformation mapping of the planned isocenter po...

Pressure effect on Curie temperature, dTc/dp, for amorphous Col-,B, alloys is estimated indirectly from forced volume magnetostriction even in Tc > Tcry. Results estimated indirectly show smaller values compared with those measured directly, and are consistent with thermal expansion. The value of dTc/dp extrapolated to Co agrees with that for crystalline Co.

Cardiac output (CO) monitoring is essential for the optimal management of critically ill patients. Several mathematical methods have been proposed for CO estimation based on pressure waveform analysis. Most of them depend on invasive recording of blood pressure and require repeated calibrations, and they suffer from decreased accuracy under specific conditions. A new systolic volume balance (SV...
