We review some of the history of treatments for hyperpigmentation and the development of hydroquinone, currently the medication of choi...
Chemical Leukoderma is a rare phenomenon in our local Singapore population. The simultaneous occurrence of both hypopigmentation and hyperpigmentation in our patient, which represents development of Chemical Leukoderma (melanocytic inhibitory reaction) and postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (melanocytic stimulatory reaction) respectively, is presumptively even rarer. Plausible underlying pathop...
Background. The objectives of this study were to estimate the incidence and evaluate risk factors for development of minocycline-induced cutaneous hyperpigmentation in patients with orthopedic infections. Methods. Patients with orthopedic infections evaluated at Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) and treated with minocycline from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2011 were retrospectively identified. Lo...

BACKGROUND Immunosuppressive medications typically used to treat the immunobullous disorders pemphigus vulgaris, pemphigus foliaceous, and bullous pemphigoid can have serious adverse effects. The tetracycline family of antibiotic drugs has been shown to be effective in the treatment of these conditions with a more favorable side effect profile. Tegafur is a prodrug of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) with a similar spectrum of antitumor activity. It is used in the treatment of advanced gastrointestinal neoplasms. Over 5-FU, tegafur has the advantage of oral administration and less hematologic toxicity. Gastrointestinal toxicity is its main dose-limiting factor. The cutaneous adverse effects of tegafur include mucositis, photosensitivity, diffuse...

Drugs such as 5-fluorouracil, docetaxel, vinorelbine, hydroxychloroquine, fotemustine, and minocycline are impl...
A 27-year old male with Hodgkin's lymphoma was treated with combined chemotherapy that included bleomycin. He presented with pruritic erythematous, edematous linear lesions and was diagnosed to have flagellate hyperpigmentation, a rare side effect of bleomycin chemotherapy.
A 62-year-old male with a long history of rosacea, which was well controlled on minocycline, presented to his primary care physician for routine examination. Physical examination was noted for non-palpable, non-pruritic blue patches of hyperpigmentation on the medial aspects of his lower extremities bilaterally. Recognition and management of the findings are discussed.

In literature there are conflicting data on the true incidence of this complication. In some studies the incidence is estimated in 30% of patients treated with sodium tetradecyl s...
