In this paper, we discuss the usability of an antibiotics therapy adviser, with a broad, complex spectrum of functions which we have developed within the ICONS project. We present the architecture of the system, case-based reasoning methods used, steps and results of medical evaluations, which are concerning the quality of the recommended therapies, the user friendliness of the system and the i...

Interacting with intelligent systems in general and ambient intelligent systems in particular, requires that these systems have the ability to build a trust relationship with the users. The ability to explain its own behaviour is one of the most important abilities that such a system can exhibit to gain trust. We argue that explanations are not just an addition to an ambient intelligent system ...

This paper presents Objectdirected Case Retrieval Nets, a memory model developed for an application of Case-Based Reasoning to the task of technical diagnosis. The key idea is to store cases, i.e. observed symptoms and diagnoses, in a network and to enhance this network with an object model encoding knowledge about the devices in the application domain.

A redesign support framework for complex technical processes is described in this paper. This framework employs a multi-model hierarchical representation of the process to be redesigned together with a case-based reasoning engine that helps us to decide the elements of the process that should be modified. This framework has been tested in the chemical engineering domain.

Traditionnally case-based reasoning is conducted on experiences that are represented in a well structured format such as objects or database records. However different models have been proposed to overcome some of the limitations imposed by this structural approach and to undertake new applications domains. In this paper, we review some of the extensions proposed to apply CBR principles to expe...

Introducing a new hobby for other people may inspire them to join with you. Reading, as one of mutual hobby, is considered as the very easy hobby to do. But, many people are not interested in this hobby. Why? Boring is the reason of why. However, this feel actually can deal with the book and time of you reading. Yeah, one that we will refer to break the boredom in reading is choosing applying c...

Case-based reasoning (CBR) is extensively used in AI in support of several applications, to assess a new situation (or case) by recollecting past situations (or cases) and employing the ones most similar to the new situation to give the assessment. In this paper we study properties of a recently proposed method for CBR, based on instantiated Abstract Argumentation and referred to as AA-CBR, for...

In this paper we present a novel approach for combining Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) and Argumentation. This approach involves 1) the use of CBR for evaluating the arguments submitted by agents in collaborative decision making dialogs, and 2) the use of Argument Schemes and Critical Questions to organize the CBR memory space. The former involves use of past cases to resolve conflicts among newly ...

This paper presents a new approach to case revision in case-based reasoning based on the idea of argumentation. Previous work on case reuse has proposed the use of operations such as case amalgamation (or merging), which generate solutions by combining information coming from different cases. Such approaches are often based on exploring the search space of possible combinations looking for a so...

of computer music systems based on AI techniques: (1) compositional, (2) improvisational, and (3) performance systems. Representative examples of each type are briefly described. Then, we look in more detail at the problem of endowing the resulting performances with the expressiveness that characterizes human-generated music. This is one of the most challenging aspects of computer music that ha...
