BACKGROUND Carpal tunnel release is the gold standard for the treatment of median nerve compression disease. Recurrent or persistent symptoms do not occur in most patients, although a small number of them have indicated that such a postoperative condition indeed exists. Some patients undergo repeated treatments. In the majority of the cases, the disease is associated with scarring in the carpal...

CONTEXT Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) has been recognized as a management option for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), although limited research exists to substantiate its effectiveness. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effectiveness of OMT in the management of CTS. METHODS This single-blinded quasi-controlled trial was conducted at an academic institution. Participants with CTS underwent w...

Carpal tunnel syndrome can be secondary in some patients, and vascular anomalies (usually a persistent median artery), median nerve variations, or both are among the etiologic factors. High division of the median nerve proximal to the carpal tunnel (known as a bifid median nerve) is a median nerve anomaly that has an incidence rate of 2.8%. This rare entity is often associated with various abno...

and Management of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome To the Editor: The May/June guest editorial1 raised several issues regarding the use of electrodiagnostic testing in the diagnosis and management of carpal tunnel syndrome. In this guest editorial, Dr Fowler expressed concerns regarding the sensitivity and specificity of electrodiagnostic testing in carpal tunnel syndrome, the benefit of confirmatory ele...

Background & Aims: Carpal tunnel surgery is mostly performed in the field of hand surgery. During the procedure the transverse carpal ligament is cut. This ligament has an important role in the strength of the hand. Objective evaluation of the hand strength can be used as a judgment of patient’s ability to return to the previous level of their hand function. The purpose of this study was to eva...

Previously presented evidence indicates that carpal tunnel syndrome is related to compression of the median nerve inside the carpal tunnel. Biomechanical arguments in which the extrinsic finger flexor tendons inside the carpal tunnel are characterized as a frictionless pulley-belt mechanism are presented to show quantitatively how wrist size, wrist position and hand position affect forces on th...

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common neurological condition with rare yet potentially serious cutaneous and skeletal complications. We present a case of mutilating/ulcerating bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome in a 63 year old female. Radiographs showed symmetrical acral osteolysis in the index and middle fingers distal phalanges bilaterally. Carpal tunnel decompressions provided symptomatic relief.

The carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common nerve entrapment syndrome. Many different methods have been described for treatment. We performed a novel method to release the carpal tunnel. Subsequently, we compared the surgery results of this novel limited incision technique and the standard longitudinal incision technique by using a 'Numerical Grading System'. There is no reported study about ...

The aim of this study is to confirm the accuracy of sonography in the diagnosis of the carpal tunnel syndrome by measuring the cross-section area of the median nerve. A prospective study of 80 patients suspected of having carpal tunnel syndrome was underwent sonography at Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in Samawa city from 1/1/2015 to 1/1/2016. The cross sectional area of the median nerve was meas...

Carpal tunnel syndrome is considered the most common of the chronic compressive neuropathies. Its cause is generally unknown. Acute carpal tunnel syndrome, which is much less common, is more often directly related to fractures and fracture-dislocations about the wrist, hemorrhagic conditions, and vascular disorders involving the wrist. Many rare and unusual causes have been described, including...
