brucellosis, caused by brucella spp., is an important zoonotic disease that causes abortion and infertility in cattle and undulant fever in humans. various studies have examined cell-free native and recombinant proteins as candidate protective antigens in animal models. among brucella immunogenes, antigen based on ribosomal preparation has been widely investigated. in this study, the immunogeni...

The genus Brucella contains alpha-Proteobacteria adapted to intracellular life within cells of a variety of mammals. Controversy has arisen concerning Brucella internal taxonomy, and it has been proposed that the DNA-DNA hybridization-based genomospecies concept be applied to the genus. According to this view, only one species, Brucella melitensis, should be recognized, and the classical specie...

CD4(+) T cells display a variety of helper functions necessary for an efficient adaptive immune response against bacterial invaders. This work reports the in vivo identification and characterization of murine cytotoxic CD4(+) T cells (CD4(+) CTL) during Brucella abortus infection. These CD4(+) CTLs express granzyme B and exhibit immunophenotypic features consistent with fully differentiated T c...

Brucella abortus infection of the aortic valve caused acute aortic regurgitation leading to severe left ventricular failure in a 62-year-old man. He made an excellent recovery after emergency aortic valve replacement. This is the third reported case of successful heart valve replacement for Brucella endocarditis and the second such case involving the aortic valve.

The application of two synthetic oligonucleotides as probes and as primers in the polymerase chain reaction is presented for a specific, sensitive, and quick identification of Brucella spp. The specific oligonucleotide sequences were chosen on the basis of a 16S rRNA sequence alignment between Brucella abortus and Agrobacterium tumefaciens.

Evaluation of cellular immunity in bovine brucella seropositive animals has been preformed , using one invitro test , the leucocytes migration test " LMIT " and one invivo test , the skin reaction by using prepared brucellin form Brucella abortus strain RR51 .All these tests showed significant reactions and proved to be reliable tests for proper appreciation of cellular immunity in bovine bruce...

Brucella abortus and Mycobacterium bovis are zoonotic pathogens that cause Brucellosis and Tuberculosis in cattle, respectively. Besides being a serious public health threat, these agents cause significant economic losses throughout the world. Here we use the fluorescence polarization capabilities of the SynergyTM 2 Multi-Mode Microplate Reader to run Brucella and Mycobacterium bovis antibody d...

WORTHINGTON, R. W. & MULDERS, MARIAS. G. Antigenic relationship of Brucellaovis to Brucella abortus and Brucella melitensis using the complement fixation test. Onderstepoort J. vet. Res., 36 (2) , 191-1 98, 1969. The CF test was used to investigate the serological relationship of Br. avis to Br. abortus and Br. melitensis. A definite antigenic relationship between Br. avis and Br. abortus could...

In previous reports (Elberg and Herzberg, 1953; Herzberg and Elberg, 1953) the isolation and characteristics of a streptomycin-dependent mutant of Brucella melitenis were described.2 The streptomycin-dependent strain retained the biochemical and antigenic characteristics of the virulent parent strain but differed in a requirement for streptomycin for its growth. Growth in vivo was not influence...
